D&D 5E We've had dragons, elementals, and demons - so what iconic evil is next?

The large evil forces in the D&D world are (in my honest opinion, and no particular order) -

Fiends
Evil Dragons
Orc / Goblinoid armies
Dark Fae and drow
Undead
Aberrations (mindflayers, aboliths, etc)

I imagine that we'll likely get a campaign around one of those. They're the most iconic and obvious antagonists for the game, so it just makes sense for a story to be based around those six. We've got the fiendish, dragon, and elemental cults as stories, leaving undead, aberrations, drow, and orc stories left for the most iconic enemies.

He did say that, but I'm not sure he said "right after Alice". Giant/Titan themed AP is probably set for next year, but we can guess the second one! Althought it seems odd that they would have an AP about giants so soon after Paizo's giant themed AP.

Well, they have stated that Pathfinder is not their competition, and that these stories have a strong cross-media purpose. Really, what is cooler than Giant shennanigans? That the tabletop players would compare it to Paizo's work does not hold much relevance to the 1.6 million folks playing Neverwinter on Xbox (recently released numbers). That's the real money source, and a number of tabletop folks might buy bot just to compare or mix.

Well RPG players might compare it, but you are right. Video games are the future of D&D, not the RPG. That is pretty clear.

Both-and, not either-or, man.

I got into D&D because of video games; probably most other Millennials who play did. Rich ground for building.

It seems WotC is going for an "iconic evil" or iconic theme approach. Given what we have seen, or will see shortly, what would be next on the iconic checklist? In order of likelihood, I think:

Undead/Ravenloft
Underdark/Drow
Planes

What else might be on the list?

Having not read any other posts and only the first one. I think that wizards should take on the apparitions that are causing absolute halt on creative projects not being released and expressed to the community as a whole. Im quite sure wizards has ghosts and other evils that are simply stealing their ability to interact with their fans to tell us what is coming in the future for 5e. That's the only thing I can possibly think of why we haven't heard about their future plans so that evil needs to be taken down so wizards can tell me what they are putting out and so I can give them my money for said products.

Oh, a personal anecdote. Well that certainly means all customers are like you. My life is ashame. Looks like suicide again for me.

Anyway, introducing some relevant facts here, considering Stewart said that people who played the game for less than 5 years represent one fifth of those who bought the core books, I would say that at 80% old foggies are an important potential source of revenues when it comes to the RPG. Unless you see a shrinking market (contradicted by ICv2).

Maybe they could do a Return to Baldurs Gate, or maybe the Zhents want to summon Bane from where he is trapped in the 9 Hells.
