OOC: thank you Lady for the kind words. We're home now and will try to get back into the swing of things ASAP!

Katerina chuckled again as she tried to keep up with the exuberant boy. "You know I like my men rough, dumb and dirty," she teased, "I'm not using those mouths for conversando and its doesn't take a brain to get that job done." She laughed heartily at herself. "Now cannons, those get this frio Corazon pounding with desire."

Kat's tone deepened as her demeanor changed, she stood taller and puffed her chest out, speaking in a more serious tone. "What do you know about this, Kid? Have you seen some canones?"

OOC: I'll fix the text when I can get onto ENW! Have to post from tapatalk, EN is down on my desktop. Of COURSE when I have time to post!!

[section]The lad nodded vigorously; he knew something about cannons, that was sure. "I found four. An' dey's been bought, but I think ye'll be wantin' ter hear the how an' where an' why, Kat. I wanna take you an' pretty lady here ter the Blackreef, dat's where m'buyer's waitin.' Ye'll be wantin' ter meet'im, promise." Kid again leaned his weight on the leg in the direction of the tavern. He scrubbed his face of any emotion, his eyes set straight on Katerina. The boy's stance and look told her what she needed to know; he was sincere. He had someone he was keen for her and Nia to meet, and there were cannons to be had. Something of bit of urgency came through, too; Kid was short on time. He took the liberty of pressing a bit more, this time with words. "Don' wanna rush ye, Kat. It's now'r never, though. C'mon, ye'll be safe enough at tha' Blackreef. We're jess goin' ter tha' publican."[/section]

Katerina nodded ever so slightly to Kid, confirming his message was received.

She paused for a moment, considering once again if she could place her trust in her new comrade Nia. It was rare for her to let anyone this far into her dealings, especially when the most important thing was on the line. But again her heart pulled her to trust, and so she did. "Senorita, please join me to see what our good friend here has found for us. I will leave it for you to decide if you want to go together or on your own. Only you know which is more beneficial."

She shook her shoulder, giving Bella the signal to stay alert. She nodded again and once Kid moved forward into the tavern, she followed, her hand on her trusty blade and her eyes taking in all.

Etienne is a little disappointed by Komiauk's vague response. " I thank you very much for your help. I hope I'll find its true purpose. I guess the Frenchman is my only hope.

Well, I brought you fine ware next to the alcohol.
(Then with a smile) Or maybe you want to keep it for yourself. Privilege of old age. I'll wait with Luca for your Cacique. The afternoon is a good time for trading."

OOC: Do you want to roleplay trading ? Maybe a little canoe ride with Luca ? Feel free to fast-forward as it suits you
OOC: I'm going to fast-forward a bit, just so we can start to move toward having the (nascent and still yet forming) party in one place!

A deal well struck with the piaman. A barrel of pine pitch with a lesson on its application for boat-caulking and a few obligatory bottles of North American liquor in exchange for a lustrous pearl the size of the tip of Etienne's thumb. After leaving to a cheery wave from Luca and good-will among the Verguenza Arawaks, the "fur hat" as they call him, makes his way thru the silken calm waters of the afternoon. The sun reflects like molten lava on the swells as Etienne sees the port of Nassau come into view. Some young lads scamper about the docks to get a look at his unusual canoe, each hopping about asking for a chance to try their hand at rowing it, or offering to unload his wares for a few pence.

Though his destination is the Colonial Hotel where Monsieur duTourbillon awaits with a spell to identify the white buffalo skin, Etienne's keen eyes pick out the shape of Katerina del Corazon and Nia Steeleyes heading toward Blackreef's Tavern which overlooks the docks.

OOC: Welcome back [MENTION=8058]Queenie[/MENTION] and [MENTION=2820]Fenris[/MENTION]! And anyone else who was away or otherwise indisposed :) Just a general all around welcome back!

Like a fixture who never left his rocking chair, the old man outside Blackreef's tavern sits with a mangy mutt gnawing a bone at his feet. The man slurps up boiled mustard greens, shrimp, and broth from a bowl of soup, cracking an eye at the approaching party with a grin showing very few teeth left. "Senoritas, ladies...Kid...eh...dog got a bone today...seas'll be calm for a three-day...mmm..."

[section]Kid smiled at the Old Man, pleased with the good omen. He gestured for Kat and Nia to enter the tavern, then stepped in after. The boy's brown eyes sought out Barrington. Kid hoped to hell the Englishman was still here. [/section]

The door to the reserved room in the back of the tavern was ajar, and beneath the sign labeled Captain's Quarters, identifying the room for patrons, Barrington is canoodling discretely -- more or less -- with Polly. When he notices the others approach, their faces separate and Prydwen discretely absents herself and goes to wiping tables in the main room, her eyes on the floor as if he did not want to stand accused of anything. As he watched her go, Barrington wondered if she were smiling as he was. But now to business, he thinks.

He didn't know how del Corazon would respond when she saw him. Indeed he was relatively certain that she had no knowledge of his participation in the fight the previous night, but surely they were both tired. He turned his back anyways and walked fully into the rented room, where he sat, leaning against his barrel of limes. His jacket is still partially unbuttoned, Polly's handiwork.

"Captain," he began, once he had turned to look at her again."I... appreciate your coming. You've had a busy day." His pronunciation of appree-see-ate is drawn out, as if he were considering the word, and the soft c inevitably sounded condescending, which was not his purpose at this time. Barrington did not know what Kid had said to make this meeting happen, but when the lad appeared as well, his head poking out from beside her, he smiled his gratitude. With a slight nod and the beginnings of a smirk, he simply says, "Kid."

Barrington sets right down to business. "I know you are fitting a ship, and I believe you are missing some cannon. I have them. Indeed, I believe I have secured all of them." He pauses for a moment. "We both know you are rushed, and there are rival expeditions bound for the same destination. I'm prepared to sell the guns to you, or, if you lack sufficient funds, to propose an alternative arrangement. But I'm afraid we must come to terms today." He reaches for his watch to see how long it is before he is due aboard the Winchelsea, but of course finds it missing.

"I want to make this work," he adds, his eyes narrowing on her. The swivel gun stands in the corner of the room, and the ammunition. He doesn't mention it, but their presence will, he hopes, save any time negotiating the facts of the matter. "I have plenty of shot, and for five hundred pound your four missing demiculverins will again be on the Coral Curse. These are the only cannon available at this time in Nassau, I assure you. If you prefer, we can find appropriate terms for only some of them."

Nia grins abruptly at that. "Clever boy," she says with a chuckle.

Playing the two captains against one another, hoping to come out...well, perhaps not on top, but ahead of where he might otherwise be. More than she'd expected of him, and that was good.

"Would you like privacy for your negotiations, captain?" she asked Katerina.

[section]Kid sidled up to Barrington and reached a brown hand in the barrel of limes. The lad selected a firm fruit, mottled green and sunny yellow, and took his prize to the table where he sat in a chair carefully and neutrally positioned halfway between Jim and Kat. Biting into the lime, Kid felt the corner of his generous mouth curl into a smile as he watched Barrington at work. The boy looked nervously to Katerina for her reaction; the Lady Captain was feisty, her moods like tempests roiling at sea. Much depended on her acquiescing to the plan to join forces.

His eyes ping-ponging between Barrington and Kat, Kid sucked lime juice from his fruit, savoring the citric tartness. He glanced at Nia, and was momentarily distracted by her eyes and lithe limbs.[/section]
