I think I'll go tiefling fighter, growing up as an outcast orphan never having known his parents and having to learn to adapt on his own, who grows into a hulking Tiefling who just happens to be the ideal mercenary

Okay barbarian isn't in phb so I'm just gonna play a fighter and role play him as a barbarian

I beg to differ! The Barbarian Class begins on page 46 of the 5E PH. Of course, you're still welcome to "babaricize" a fighter, if you prefer, but if you want the d12 hit dice and the cool unarmored defense, go for the barbarian.

This can work, eve if you decide you'd rather make him a Tiefling Barbarian.

I realise now I downloaded the basic rules and not the actual handbook, which is also why I wasn't finding the Tiefling, I think I'm gonna stay fighter most likely, for ease of backstory and so I can hold off on memorizing the rage mechanics until I'm more comfortable

I mean I do suppose both can work but I think ill ease myself into 5th with a fighter, at least until I better understand the new game mechanics(im used to 3.5 and this looks much simpler)

Suit yourself. Like I said, nothing's carved in stone for a couple of days, at least, so maybe sleep on it a bit and see how you feel tomorrow.

Trogdor, just be sure that your background makes it onto your character sheet, which you should post in this thread for now. RG is for aproved characters, of which there are only two so far, Riderpride81 and Alizaar. Tieflings, much as it pains me to say, are ok as they are now a PH race. So you may indulge yourself in that regard, provided that you can manage to play a good or neutral Tiefling. What I am not looking for is a character with a backstory that will take over the game, but as long as his dreams of vengeance are subordinate to the needs of the group (at least most of the time) it shouldn't be insurmountable. I will say this: Ol' Scratch will be expected to be a team player, so you can work that into his personality/background however you see fit, or you can go ahead and scrap him for the human barbarian as you evidently decided to do sometime while my attention was diverted elsewhere.

Also, I'm keeping recruitment open until Sunday (10/19/2015) evening, cst, whenever I feel like cutting it off, so I'm not looking for a huge outpouring of applications, but you never know.
Why does it pain you to allow Tieflings anyway (if it's due to there demonic ancestry, don't worry, I have no interest in being an evil demonic kind of Tiefling)

I was just mostly blowing smoke, but, yeah, I guess it was the whole demonic/diabolical heritage thing. I'm over it now, though. Still, I feel better thanks to your reassurance of a 'kinder, gentler Tiefling.' Honestly, I never thought about a Tiefling barbarian before. Heck, I usually don't even remember that there is such a class as the Barbarian! But, looking at the 5E class, maybe it's way past time for me to play one. Hmm, a Gnome Barbarian.... nahhhhhhhhh!

A gnome barbarian can actually be quite fun
