I was curious about starting gold. If you read the PHB, each class will start you off with some equipment, and more often than not, your background selections will also give you some additional proficiencies and equipment choices as well.

There is a roll method for starting gold, but I'll leave that up to Leif's discretion.

Are you still recruiting?

also a noob to PbP
I've been lurking around here for a few months, been playing D&D for 30 odd years, I've never played this format(Pbp) and would love to join in. I have been DMing my own homebrewed forgotten realms 5E campaign for about a year now, so I am familiar with the rules.

I've also got an idea for a gnome wizard:)

Background: Hermit
rejected by the wizard schools for 'outrageous claims and proclamations', I have persevered the slights of my
peers with mild indifference, seeking knowledge where I can , but rarely am I allowed to study at the same place twice. I don't let other's ignorance become a loadstone of my existence. I've spent my time in solitary research and have decided it is time that I venture forth to to find more evidence to support my conclusions.

Feature: Discovery-
In my search for the source of magic, in it's purest sense, I stumbled upon an ancient form of arcana,
a means to tap the elements, which I refer to as Elementalism, and classified it's diverse branches as
Pyromancy, Geomancy, Aquamancy, and Aeromancy. My Thesis, with it's in depth contrast comparisons to
mainstream arcane teachings, and the verisimilitude of my hypothetical notions to current dogma, has
been an obsessive preoccupation. The Schools refuse to acknowledge the possibility of my quandary, citing
my magical abilities are not evidence of elemental manifestation, due to variegated similarities, compounded by
fluctuation of the weave whilst channelling the font. A day will come when I prove otherwise!

Background Traits:
I'm oblivious to etiquette and social expectations. I often get lost in my own thoughts and contemplation,
becoming oblivious to my surroundings. Free Thinking. Inquiry and curiosity are the pillars of
progress. I'm still seeking the knowledge I pursued in my seclusion, and it still eludes me.
I’d risk too much to uncover a lost bit of knowledge.[/sblock]

Feature:Military Rank- Officer's Insignia

A veteran of many battles, with the scars to prove it, I earned my stripes on the field. Preferring leadership
by example, often wading into battle at the front of my platoon. Never afraid of a challenge, but tempered by
the hard years training, I've learned fighting is not the only way to succeed. But, I will fight to the death without
fear, and unwavering, especially against those who oppress what I believe in. But battle is only a means to an end,
and I approach each challenge with a glint in my eye.
Afterwards, finding the time to enjoy a few moments of laughter among comrades as we lick our wounds.

I’m full of inspiring and cautionary tales from my military experience relevant to almost every combat
situation.I can stare down a hell hound without flinching. Our lot is to lay down our lives in
defence of others. My honor is my life. My hatred of my enemies is blind and unreasoning.

yay! I have improved on PbP posting (101)!...figured out the sblock thing :)

I'll let the two wood Elves concur on which they would like in their midst, if I am accepted by DM Leif, or perhaps I can come up with another.

EDIT: I fleshed out the Gnome a little more, I realize I have not been accepted, but I did it anyhow because I may use him for an NPC in my campaign. I really like the Paladin myself, but I can see the forest gnome~wood elf affinity.

I like the gnome wizard a little bit more than the paladin. I think he would fit more into the story, but that is merely my opinion lol nothing more. Both characters are good in their own rite.

I agree.
ironically not a personal go to choice for me as a player, but having read your discussion, i had this guy in the back of my mind. He's a bit of an oddball, wordy, exuberant, and possibly a little mental. (He think's he can eventually cast spells inately, that he can channel the elemental planes directly without using the weave, a pipe dream most likely!)

Though I prefer playing melee class, and I felt the Pally would help bring a little healing to the group, in hindsight he may not be the best fit with sneaky wood elves ;)

I migth also hbe persuaded to play a Human Cleric of Lathandar that have in the wings as an NPC, but I dont like playing clerics much lol
