D&D 5E Any Updates on Psionics and the Mystic?

Dragonhelm

I thought I read somewhere that we would be seeing an update on the psionics article WotC posted back in July sometime in November. Anyone got any info on this?

Mearls was not specific on a time-frame, but the fact that people reacted positively to the initial trial apparently makes the design moving more tricky, in that they want preserve and build on what people liked. That takes longer than a ground-up rebuild. Hopefully we'll see an update soon, but we are still waiting for *any* follow-up article, Eberron seems glaring as well.

Technically, we've had a follow-up – half of the material in "Waterborn Adventurers" made it into SCAG.

I think when they are happy with it, they will put it in an adventure supplement (like the storm sorcerer and swashbuckler in SCAG) instead of a free UA article. I don't know if a mystic would fit Shakespearean giants, but an adventure that involves froghemoths and flail snails? That seems like a good fit.

The big downside to that strategy would be the Eberron stuff, as they don't seem too enthused about venturing out of the realms....

That makes sense for us that consider free web articles as in-progress playtest stuff only. We use only the rules that are printed on dead trees, since that's historically the needed level of WotC investment for us to trust a given rule has seen at least minimal playtesting.

(For instance, while I haven't bought Princes of the Apocalypse, I'm using the Elemental Evil spells, since they're part of that book. Meaning I don't need to rest my eyeballs on the actual dead tree myself, just as long as that dead tree exist in a game store somewhere)

Don't think they ever said they would be back in November. Generally they're (rightly) cautious in promising specific time frames.
