D&D 5E Cat Lord vs. Sharess

Okay I found out that in the Tabaxi section they offered up a new Deity, the Cat Lord, who traditionally wasn't a deity at all I think. Trickery Domain.

Also the only FR reference in the Tabaxi section is a side bar mentioning Tabaxi in the Forgotten Realms.

Why did they need a new Cat Deity when FR had Sharess who hasn't been mentioned 5e yet, outside of a brief mention in one of the novels.

So is the Cat Lord a Male aspect of Sharess? Or will AL replace the Cat Lord with an FR Deity Sharess?

The sidebar you mention specifically states that the tabaxi originally hail from Maztica (which is the first real mention of the region in 5e if I'm not mistaken). They have been usually a reclusive race, but are now showing up in greater numbers across Faerun, with rumors of "strange happenings" having occurred in Maztica. So, tabaxi wouldn't worship Sharess, at least not originally, as she wouldn't be known in their homeland.

FYI,
"The cat lord, or master cat, is the ruler of all forms of felines from domestic cats through the giant lynx to the largest smilodons. Some believe the cat lord to be at least a deity of minor sort; others claim the cat lord to be a malign creature of evil."

I guess the first impression is correct as his alignment is Neutral. He also has AC -9 which is one of the best in AD&D, but only 81 hp(treat as 19 hit dice).

It's a cat, by definition it must be chaotic evil. Everyone knows cats only exist to enslave mortal-kind and knock expensive things off shelves for no reason.

True, but the FR Tabaxi didn't worship The Cat Lord originally, now all of a Sudden they do and its radically changed their Culture from reclusive isolationists, maybe even xenophobic, into an open Culture, with many Tabaxi gifted with curiousity. So this appears to be a new development. Its unlikely that the Tabaxi worshipped the Cat Lord in Abeir, Divine Magic didn't work in Abeir, no weave, but it would explain why they stopped worshipping the Maztican Gods.

So I figure maybe the Cat Lord is a Chosen of Sharess. Just a theory.

Cat Lord has nothing to do with Sharess. She also has that sex kitten thing going on as well.

Cat lord is basically a force of nature and is roughly equivilent in power to a demon lord or archedevil. As previously mentioned the Cat Lord was in 1E monster manual 2. He would be somewhere between CR 18 and 26 probably perhaps similar to on of the Elemental evil princes.

Sharess is also a cat god of the human race. The Cat Lord would be more nature based with all felines paying him homage. I think he is an ally of Nobanion I will have to check that with my 2E sources.

The Faerunian pantheon is exactly that its several older pantheons merged from the dominant human cultures. Other forces have their own powers independent of the human gods.

I guess, but it annoys me that Sharess wasn't in the SCAG, so I was hoping to use the Cat Lord as way to have Sharess in game. Sharess is not just worshipped by Humans, she's worshipped by elves, planetouched, rare halflings, werecats, some wemics.

Returned Tabaxi from Abeir would be a ripe choice for converts. And again the original Cat Lord wasn't a God and actually had a chosen successor in the Kitten Lord according to the comic books.

So just have Sharess absorbed the Cat Lord.
