I see a good amount of support for the Phoenix, help me understand. It gets Mantle once a day for a minute, so that's basically negligible in terms fo 6-8 combats a day. Phoenix Spark only comes up if you are dropped, so I hope to get very little use out of that feature. And if you happen to be using your once a day mantle, it snuffs it to be vindictive. And the remaining two powers are higher level then I expect to get in store play (1-11 or 1-11) so are effectively non-existent.

To me, this gives you really close to nothing. Once combat a day you have a little bit of goodness, and once a day you get a get-out-of-unconsciousness for free. What am I missing?

My favorite by far is Storm from the Waterborne Adventures UA from a while back. I also like Shadow. I'm not all that impressed by the recent batch of origins.

A lot of people are saying it is good if you change the mantle to 1-2/Short rest. Maybe add the ability to alter damage spells to fire on to spark to give a bit more at that point. I am still up in the air about ignoring fire resistance at some point.

The only sorcerer subclass that I like to date is the new favored soul. It is not perfect, but it is a closer fit to the style of campaigns that I like to run.

Yep, this. I like the flavor of the abilities, but it's obviously underpowered with its current 1/LR limitation. I wouldn't mind seeing a revivify effect castable on others, as well.

Favoured Soul 36 - 4 = 32 net positive

Stone Sorcery 28 - 9 = 19 net positive

Phoenix Sorcery 16 - 15 = 1 net positive

Water Sorcery 29 - 5 = 24 net positive

Shadow Sorcery 18 -10 = 8

It seems clear Favoured Soul is kicking everyone's arse.

Still Stone and Water Sorcery are doing excellent and even Shadow Sorcery is nearly 2:1 in favour, it will likely do better with some tweaking.

But poor Phoenix Sorceror is not fairing well, is fixable by increasing usages of mantle or is it simply borked beyond repair?

I'd like to see a Titan/Empyrean or Demigod Sorcerous Origin. The bloodline of pretty much any powerful creature could work, though. Sphinx sorcerers, anyone? Couatl sorcerers?

That Storm sorcerer has been superseded by an officially published storm Sorcerer in SCAG.

It's ... not as powerful.

Cool imagery! What would be their differentiators - in other words, what makes them unique mechanically instead of just a reskin on an existing?

Empyrean and Demigods falls under Favoured Soul as celestials and deities. I'd argue so do Fiends. If you want to emphasis your Empyrean ancestor pick spells like enlarge (for size), flight because they fly, Chromatic Orb for it's similarities with their magic bolt, and spells like water walking/breathing, Greater Restoration, Plane Shift, Firestorm, that the Empyrean gets.
