D&D 5E Mike Mearls interview - states that they may be getting off of the 2 AP/year train.

So they should set it in the future? If there's a CS book, doesn't that set the state of the world at a certain date?

I dont know if an adventure with no fixed time line is set in the future or the past.

If you really really need a city that has been invaded by a foreign army then I can think of plenty of examples you could use, like one of the Dales by the Zhents or Neverwinter by the Red Wizards. Remember that the Realms is not a peaceful place.

But isn't that just what a campaign setting is? The state of all things like cities and NPCs at a fixed point in the timeline?

Yes the campaign setting is fixed. And the adventurers are not fixed. Obviously the Adventure would take precedent over the Campaign setting. In the Campaign setting the Zhents are eyeing up Shadowdale. In the Adventure they have been occupying Shadowdale for 5 years. But tell me, did the adventure happen before the Campaign setting or after?

If the adventures contradict the campaign setting, then what's the point of the campaign setting again?

o_O

Because some people want to use Shadowdale as place to adventurer but dont want to use the official Attack of the Zhents Adventure?

Do other people still make their own adventurers anymore? Just me then?
