D&D 5E The Dangers of Overreliance on Leomund's Tiny Hut (3rd Level Spell)

I agree that the metagame intent seems clear. Which is why I personally find the bulette, piles of rocks, etc "countermeasures" pretty irrelevant. Either one embraces the metagame intent and uses the spell as you describe, or else one rejects the metagame intent and hence doesn't include the spell in one's game (removing it, gentlemen's agreement to ignore it, whatever).
My impulse would be to run it like in the classic game. Anyone can enter or leave it (except the caster, if he leaves it collapses), it's opaque from the outside, and is a nice, magical, tent that protects the party from the elements.

Besides, doesn't Rope Trick, a level earlier, give you uninterruptible-rest/5MWD capability, too?

Another spell that I've not seen used in over 30 years of GMing.

I've been in groups that use it constantly, and in groups that never even think of using it. It really depends on the person playing the wizard and if they want to go for utility as well as nukes and battlefield control.

But that would mean that you get the last word which doesn't seem fair. :)

On a forum with sequential posts, someone always has the last word.

I signalled my intention to leave the discussion here and invited them to join me. If they want one final post, then having already left the matter behind me, I will not be responding further.

It isn't a question of fairness - or an attempt to be unfair. I just don't see the point of explaining further the underlying fundamental misconception fuelling the debate.

I've seen both spells used many times in the last 39 years of gaming - but then they do tend to be less prevalent in hack'n'slash games. They are in my experience used by the more thoughtful player at the table, and certainly by players whose GMs make an engaging challenge out of the exploration part of the game such as happens in more well rounded and immersive campaigns.

You seemed a bit serious. I was trying to lighten the mood. Hence the :). I suppose I failed.

I agree with your way of running it. I would delete the two sentences starting with the words "All other creatures..." At the end of the second paragraph in the spell description.

Rope trick only lasts an hour and isn't a ritual spell so allows only a short rest and has a small cost.

Leomunds Tiny Hut as written as an impenetrable dome of force against enemies, lasting 8 hours and being a ritual spell can just be recast every 8 hours for no costs (taking 10 minutes) so allow a group to essentially long rest without much risk. Not how it originally worked. But as a ritual spell if you take out the two sentences I referred to from the description it is pretty useful as a comfortable camouflage tent that hides the campfire etc.

The spell is not overpowered, because a *CREATIVE* DM would be able to find ways to challenge players who use it, even on a regular basis.
