D&D 5E [5e] QL's Al-Qadim Game

Now the only thing about introducing Harun with the dramatic reveal of "I've been here all along, disguised as a _____", is that Thateous' PC Akilah is a hakima, or truth-seer. So you two might want to pow-wow on whether Akilah already recognized Harun's nature...if not, why not? If she did notice, why didn't she say anything?

The other possible issue is that it's already something Ankabut has coming up, so it might lead to a bit of slapstick, where suddenly it seems like everyone is about to whip a Scooby Doo mask off their face and reveal they're actually an old man from an amusement park. :)

Ring of Mind Shielding. Makes it so no one can read my thoughts, determine if I'm lying, know my alignment or my creature type. Basically, lets me lie to a Truth Seeker to their face and they think I'm telling the truth. They also think i'm Lawful Good Alignment, cause I said so, and they think I'm human.

As for the illusion, yeah, if he were to use his Channel Divinity on me, then he would probably see through the illusion. If he's using it, which he probably wouldn't be. I've got the Actor Feat, I can pretend to be anyone I want and people believe me cause I'm awesome. The Hat of Disguise is just the gravy. It's the tofu underneath that has to convince you it's chicken.

Ah, that's a good point. I think there's enough distinction there for a couple reasons, but I'll leave it up to you and tglassy if you want to change anything. But from my perspective...

 • Ankabut/"Amina" isn't going to be revealed for a little while longer. While Harun is going to be revealed in his opening scene.
 • Going from an acolyte of Hakiyah to a holy slayer of Hakiyah (with the same face) is far less of a stretch that Harun's over the top reveal.
 • Harun is more fun-loving showmanship, concealing himself because he can. Ankabut is grim focus, concealing herself because if the Brotherhood knew about her & her mission they could very well send assassins to counter-assassinate her!

Points well-taken, all! Ankabut's deception is more pragmatic, and less about concealing who she is than what she does. A subtle distinction, but perhaps important.

Anyway, I'm fine with this turn of events. Just wanted to make sure the wrinkle was examined before anything was finalized. :)

Eww disperse mirage would reveal the gloves and the ring too. To everyone I'd target that happened to glance at you. But seriously I have no reason to pry into anyone.
If you're still doing the cousin of the all mighty I'm sure word of your shenanigans is somewhat known within the court. As long as you don't get in the way of Akilah helping her father she's not going to care.

heyhey! I found some rules about armor in Al-Qadim!

A Note about heavy armor: While not unheard of in the Land of Fate, heavy armor is usually impractical due to the extreme desert heat and the swashbuckling nature of adventures. Plate and half-plate are completely unavailable. Zakharan scale armor is called "lamellar" and is lighter (30 lbs. instead of 45). To compensate for this, any Zakharan character with heavy armor proficiency who is wearing medium, light, or no armor gains a +1 AC bonus.

I don't know if it's from a reliable source though, it's from this "Kweek Leeph" fellow, seems a bit iffy.

well it was a while ago...

I think this has everything completed. Let me know if it's okay and I'll post it to the rogue's gallery. Husam

Husam looks good! Go ahead and post him to the Rogues Gallery.

I do have one question. Being born into the palace guard of Sheikh Ali of Tajar...do you see him as a mamluk (slave warrior with facial tattoos)? Or do you see him as hailing from the House of Bakr (Young Camel) which the Sheikh belongs to, with the Sheikh leading the now urbanized nomads? Or do you see him as hailing from an urban lineage that once served the old wicked Sultan (who was overthrown by the Sheikh's father) and gratefully swore loyalty to the new honorable and wise Sheikh?

OK, so we have Husam ( Matthan ) as a palace guard of Sheikh Ali; so he'll clearly be at the new meeting with the Sheikh, and can be tasked to help discover the raids.

Shall we say Lal Qalandar ( Ancalagon ) is already in audience with the Sheikh, just being introduced by Husam since they knew one another from before? The Sheikh may be a bit skeptical of this foreign mystic, but also intrigued because the Sheikh has roots in the al-Badia (desert dwellers) among whom superstitions run thick as blood.

That leaves Harun ( tglassy )! I double-checked the City of Delights books which describe the Grand Caliph's royal family, and it turns out the Grand Caliph is an only child! So, let's have Harun be the son of Prince Tannous al-Assad, the Grand Caliph's paternal uncle, a dour serious-minded man who is in line for the throne if the Grand Caliph continues to sire no male heirs. Prince Tannous would be just the type to want his embarrassing son far from the royal court.

This would make Harun's full name ––– Harun al-Assad ibn-Tannous.

I can leave Harun's shocking revelation of his identity up to you? I don't have anything specific in mind, only that he reveals himself in the opening scene, rather than being undercover like "Amina" / Ankabut ( Shayuri ).

And in this new audience with the Sheikh scene, we can also explain why Kaniel ( Jago ) and Najiyah ( Foxbytes ) leave the party. I'm thinking Najiyah is suffering her own emotional crisis and the Sheikh decides to keep her close at hand to help figure out what is going on with the sea mages & to keep tabs on any Brotherhood of True Flame activity in Tajar. Whereas Kaniel – well, I'm not quite sure yet how to transition Kaniel out since he had such a strong hook (redeeming himself in eyes of House Nisr, avenging the attack on the Desert Mosque) – probably going to go with the mamluks of the Valiant ordering him to investigate a different direction than the rest of the party decides to investigate.

That should do it!

Any questions, concerns, or ideas before I post up the scene in the IC thread?
