D&D 5E Cantrip Warrior

3 levels of sorcerer so you get metamagic like quicken and twin to be able to cast more cantrips would be interesting.

Yeah...I am thinking a sorcerer level or so would be nice. 4 cantrips if I recall and the metamagic. Combined with a Tome warlock and some armor...that is very interesting.

Several ideas already are intriguing. I love blade pacts for reasons. However, I think a tome pact would be fascinating. I could even add magic initiate later for MORE cantrip power. I am not much of a dipper, but one level of sorcerer with this guy would be interesting too.

I could take a variant human off the bat and get moderately armored...very interesting...

If I did one level of sorcerer or so, I could also get access to shield as well.

Here's the thread where someone else gave me the build to try. Toward the end of the discussion, I made some posts of how it played.

Basically the tactic was to have AoA on before the combat, cast blade ward and shillelagh in the first round and go get in someone's grill. Then delight in the bad choices the DM has to contemplate.

A Half-Elf War Cleric with the High Elf Cantrip choice and Booming Blade from SCAG. Pick up War Caster for a AoO with Booming Blade, too, and hit a fleeing opponent with both aspects of the cantrip as well as casting with weapon & shield and Advantage on Concentration Checks!

I'm running one like this right now (though he took a level of Sorc instead of the High Elf Cantrip) and it's pretty fun.

That's cool. Yes, I am more into fun and memorable at this stage. I don't want to be feeble or incompetent of course. That sounds fun...Eldritch knight is on the differential. I like Charisma as a casting and plain stat. I could take Eldritch Knight and if multiclassed cast spells with that stat in the Eldrith Knight slots...

I may have to think about that too.

I assume that the action surge could be two spell effects if one is a cantrip and one a spell with a bonus action time...

Exactly, even real wizards wont have the opportunity to cast ''so many spells'' in a round. Add to it Warcaster so you can use cantrips as AoO. I loved using Shocking Grasp and Lightning Lure: many casters do not use them to avoid being caught in melee with an enemy, but with the fighter chassis, there wont be any problem.

I'm thinking Fighter/EK 7, Sorcerer 2, Rogue/AT X. You can attack and cantrip at the same time. You can funnel all of your spell slots into sorcery points for quicken spell. You get some sneak attack on greenflame blade and booming blade, or on an arrow after you flame bolt someone.

Correct. Action Surge would also allow a character to cast two non-cantrip spells, so long as neither requires a bonus action. The limit concerning spellcasting only applies if you cast a spell with a casting time of "bonus action".

Action Surge
Starting at 2nd level, you can push yourself beyond your normal limits for a moment. On your turn, you can take one additional action on top of your regular action and a possible bonus action.

Bonus Action
A spell cast with a bonus action is especially swift. You must use a bonus action on your turn to cast the spell, provided that you haven’t already taken a bonus action this turn. You can’t cast another spell during the same turn, except for a cantrip with a casting time of 1 action.

High elf (1 cantrip) sorcerer 5 (con saves, 4 cantrips)/arcana cleric 1 (armor, shield, 5 cantrips)/tome pact 5 (6 cantrips, shillelagh, rituals)/lore bard 6 (cutting words, 5 cantrips)/land druid 2 (4 cantrips).
= 25 cantrips, (15 Cha based, 9 Wis, 1 Int).

8 Str, 12+2 Dex, 13 Con, 10+1 Int, 14 Wis, 15 Cha.
Warcaster, +1 Con/Cha. +2 Cha.

Quicken + darkness + devils sight for advantage and shillelagh + booming blade + warcaster gives you plenty of bite with good AC.
Possibly quicken bless. Twin booming blade also works. Fireball or hypnotic pattern if needed. Cutting words provide some support when not OAing.

And 1 more level, somewhere.

Could go EK to 7 war magic use Greenflame Blade or Booming blade followed by another melee attack multiclass into paldian for converting spell slots into smite instead of just shield and abosrb elements or you can go dex based and goto 7-8 EK mixed with Wizard blade singer.

To me it sounds like you want to play an Eldritch Knight (as many have mentioned). I would also consider a paladin either with magic initiate for Booming blade and/or GFB or with a level or two of Warlock (because nice invocations and I like the idea of using Eldritch Blast if the targets are out of melee range).

The character I am currently playing regularly is a Half-Elf Swashbuckler 5/Dragon sorcerer 1 with Prestidigitation, Green-Flame Blade, Booming Blade and Mage hand as cantrips and Shield + Feather Fall as normal spells. It is really nice to walk up to an enemy, hit them with Booming Blade to keep them in place (after delivering sneak attack damage) and then walk out of their reach again. I really wanted some more survivability for my character, so I took +2 Dex over a Feat (+1 to AC, Dex saves, to hit, damage and initiative was well worth it). I now have AC 17, 45 max hit points and lots of stuff to do in all pillars of the game.

If I would change anything it would be to swap GFB for Conjure Bonfire in Elemental Evil Player's Companion or whatever it is called. That is because my group allow all sources (no Core + 1 rule) and the artificer is the only PC without both Booming Blade and Shield available. If it is armour you want I would not recommend it (I wanted to avoid the hassle with this character), but the AC is fine and overall I can really recommend it. For reference the current stats are Str 11, Dex 18, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 12 and Cha 14.

Wizard 1 for more cantrips?
