D&D 5E Mearls on other settings

It is not about not letting ppl shine it is about trivializing a challenge.

Everything gets easier at higher levels, and yes in DS managing water supply should always be an issue, even if that means killing dinosaurs to drink their blood every now and then.

But, that's the thing. If you kill a large creature, for example, food stops being an issue for quite a long time. Figure something big, say, about a ton. That's enough food for the party for weeks, presuming they spend the time curing it and whatnot. And it's not like big critters are all that rare. So, does it really matter that much if one PC doesn't need to eat? The rest of the party still does.

It's like having a flying PC. Sure, that PC can do stuff that other PC's can't. But, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter that the PC can fly if everyone else is walking. You still need to climb that cliff, make a boat to sail over that river, whatever.

Now, a PC that could make food and water for everyone? Sure, that's a problem. But, one that isn't terribly concerned with weapons, but, instead has unarmed attacks? Considering Dark Sun has Thri-Kreen which come equipped with natural attacks, I'm not seeing how a monk is that big of a deal.

Or, put it another way. If the challenges of your campaign are that easy to get around, perhaps that isn't as much of a challenge as you think.

Sorry, but no other edition in the history of D&D sucked so bad and yet when people complain or air their dislike for 4E, the mods run in here saying do not talk bad about 4E or else. Is this forum being run by Putin? Or his oligarchs? 4E killed the hobby and let a third party producer over take D&D with their ersatz version of D&D. Was Trump running WotC at the time? lol. "Lets make Pathfinder Great again" lol

I dropped outta the hobby for 4 years after 4E came out, so many of us who left the hobby are now coming back because of how great 5E is. So please take that into consideration when you issue "Thou shan't trample upon 4E because we said so"

So please stop with taking away free speech, if people dont like the 4E comments they can easily skip over such threads or postings, you know your mouse has that wheel that lets you scroll past such posts right?

Keep it civil, please. Edition warring has no place on these boards. Nor does attacking your fellow posters, whether individually or in groups.

So you said you weren't around a few years ago, and you probably don't understand how toxic the forum community got. Edition warring is not the same thing as an honest discussion. And just as 4e fans could scroll past and chill, 4e haters could just scroll past and chill. Which is - I think - what the mods want.

Because keep in mind - edition warring isn't just about 4e; I am certainly not spending every post griping about how terrible 3.x game design is, for example. 4e isn't in a protected class of its own; it's part of an umbrella 'no edition warring' rule that keeps the whole site pretty cozy for gamers of all stripes.

Forums aren't really about free speech, btw - they are not public platforms, but private ones. The owners and mods get to decide what is and isn't conducive to a healthy community.

But anyway. Maybe I should have reported this instead of replying to it, and let the mods reply. If so, sorry, mods.

No, I don't think that is always necessary. Sure, some of us burn a little hot sometimes, but your post was perfectly fine for bringing The_Gunslinger658 up to speed. I for one certainly don't hope Darkness or the other mods come down hard and heavy.

It's like many of us say, sometimes its better to use the carrot than the stick.

Never really was an edition warring type, I enjoyed all editions except 4E. Its just too bad that those of us who were not in the hobby at the time are now penalized by not airing are veiws of how we felt about 4E and its effects on both the hobby and our dedication to play D&D.

I think the general thought process is - you can critique 4e but provide your justifications and a discussion will ensue, but blatant edition warring is forbidden.
'4e sux' is bad BUT 'I dislike 4e's method of doing x because of y' is acceptable.

You are not being penalized. But also keep in mind that in addition to "no edition warring," this forum also tends to frown on people imposing "badwrongfun" on others. Saying that you prefer all editions except 4E is one thing, as that frames the discussion in terms of your personal preferences, but saying that "no other edition in the history of D&D sucked so bad" ventures boldly into inflammatory edition warring territory. The pros and cons of 4E and others editions do get discussed, but it's expected that it should be done (1) civilly, (2) respectfully, and (3) and without imposing notions of "badwrongfun."

Well, that was fun

I’ve asked you before not to argue with the mods. Comparing us to Putin and inserting political comments, too? This is not acceptable behaviour. You’re a guest and you’ll act like one. If you don’t like it here, there are plenty of other places you can post.

Next time, you’ll be asked to leave. I don’t ask much of my guests, but I do ask that they don’t crap on the furniture or insult me or my other guests. Just basic social skills.

Apologies to both mods and forum members about my post.

Ok lets right this ship and get back to which setting we would like too see back in print. I want to see Eberron get the 5E treatment, this is a great setting which kinda reminded me of the old comic book Battle Chasers ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Chasers)
