Lantan and smokepowder

As long as nobody's trying to be ridiculous.

You can't claim reskinning or refluffing rights to say your weapon is a laser gun or six-shooter.

You can't name your horse "Volvo" and claim it's a car.

You can't say your bard is a jpop artist or your wizard a corporate accountant.

Do that and you should get thrown out for being a nuisance.

Specifically, refuse to abide by the local table DM (trying to say "the admins are okay with it") and bye bye.

What I'm trying to say is I guess you're okay Kahless as long as you immediately agree to drop your reskinning ideas if a DM asks you to.

Saying "I don't see the difference. No mechanics are changing. No Admin has come down on me for daring to float the idea." is not okay in that situation. None of those arguments are valid. Only "ok, sure, maybe next time" is.

I'm not being ridiculous. Smokepowder is a thing in FR. Lantan and Gond are a thing. None of that is ridiculous. I just think a DM in AL needs a reason better than "I don't like it" to deny it. It's his table, but not his game.

No.

A DM don't need to justify their decisions.

This attitude of yours is entitlement and I suggest you recalibrate. Never think you have a right, when you should feel privileged.

Have a pleasant day.

Did anyone else spend hours during the week preparing to run a game for relative strangers?
It's his table AND his game. If you don't like his call you don't have to play at his table.

As long as no mechanics were affected and you didn't try to use the weapons re-skinning to do things a crossbow couldn't I'd be fine with it. But if you pouted about my call if I wasn't cool with it I'd ask you to leave.

No, it's not his game. It's the Adventure League's game. He's just the caretaker.

It's a familiar refrain over on the AL FB page. Someone complains about some AL restriction. A DM says he would allow it/AL is too restrictive. Group members remind him he can't do that, it's against the rules. Said DM pulls the "My table, my game" card, members have to remind him, noit isn't his game, it's AL's game Escalation. Admins remind DM this is an AL group and you can't encourage people to break the rules. DM usually gets snarky and either leaves or gets booted. Wash, rinse, repeat.

AL is NOT your home game, so no, you can't just impose your will.

It isn't entitlement. An AL player has the right to expect a DM to follow AL rules and not completely invalidate the whole adventure/table. As the Admins recently confirmed over in Facebook , a single violation, no matter how small, makes it illegal.

So DM's have to follow the rules too. I do when I DM. And these rules include refluffing.

So yes, given the fact that smokepowder and Lantan exist, and given the allowex latitude on refluffing, I do feel a DM newds a better reason than "I don't like it."

You don't have to like it. You just have to follow the rules. Just like I, as a player, do. DM discretion and table variance apply to rulings, not rules. This isn't a ruling.

That said, I'm not likely to make too big an issue of it at the table. I will play my crossbowslinger. Though this is why I float ideas here before I waste the time making a character a bunch of DMs are going to get panties in a twist over. Maybe I should just stick with bog-standard archers as boring as everyone else's bog-standard archer.

Yeah, with that attitude you wouldn't be welcome at my table, AL or no AL.

You seem to think you can dredge up any old Realmslore and expect the DM to abide by it like it was some kind of law.

My only advice to you is to lose that attitude, and fast.

Expect table variation. Not every DM will even know what Lantan is. That's all there's to it. Nothing more needs to be said. Bye.

Well, it's also against the rules to ban a player from playing at a table (inclusion and all that), unless there's a good reason (i.e. they're breaking the rules). So just because you don't like me doesn't mean you can forbid me to play ;)

Dredge up? There's a whole 5 paragraphs -- almost a full column -- on Lantan in SCAG. They're back, and they're even better than ever, with magi-tech now! It's hardly some FR esoterica only available by dredging the depths of Candlekeep Forum. Not to mention there's the FR wiki.

Hmmm...maybe I'll make a Halruuan and fly in on an airship. That's definitely canon! I mean, it made an appearance on the Stream of Annihilation and everything! ;)

Since no Admin has dropped the banhammer on my idea across three AL community forums, I'm thinking my character Milady de Winter is perfectly fine for AL.
