D&D 5E Xanathar's Guide to Everything: Arcane Archer Subclass

I suggested they base the limit on Intelligence. 1 + Int mod (minimum 1), rather than a flat 2/rest. I can always make that a house rule, if needed. I suppose I'd probably have to do the same for the druid's wild shape, though, since that has the same arbitrary limit. I'd base that on something other than Wisdom, though. Maybe Con mod?

I'm actually a big fan of that at my table; changing limitations based on the type of campaign I'm running. In example, for Barbarian Rage, I convert it to rounds per Long Rest if I'm running dungeon crawls with different encounter types and sizes, affected by party size as well. The higher damage the party delivers, the more awful a 2/day becomes. However, 5 + Class Level + Con Mod per Long Rest (slightly less overall) is much more effective for the Barbarian when the fight ends in 2 rounds against a horde of Kobolds, and 9 rounds against a regenerating Golem. So good idea, I'll keep in mind for the AA.

Nice idea. I always think it's smart design when they key into a secondary (or here tertiary) stat -- actually requiring the player to make a design choice.

That was interesting idea

That way they have have to chose an Ice arrow, fire arrow etc and then it is easy to expand arrow types in the future and you can have the same damage scaling as the Battle master I would limit it to like two arrow type at the tsart then you can pick another at 7th etc and the dice scale like the Battle Master. That was the feedback I gave in WOTC

The only one of the confirmed subclasses I like at all is the Forge Cleric. The Fighter/Scout was better than the Rogue/Scout by a mile. But, nope, the Fighter/Scout used superiority dice and that's just a bridge too far.

I think I'll pass yet again on a 5e book and let one or more of my players buy it. The subclasses don't enthuse me at all.

I purchased scag but just for the extra classes we used the walock and monk stuff the most. Volo's guide was worth it for the extar races and the monsters which I already mixed some into a campaigin that was a good buy. Now this one I knwo I am going ot get if they have the spear feat, storm hearld, Kensi the Samuari it depends on what they changed from the UA and the stome socerer is another I like hope it makes the cut.

My favorite class from SCAG and one of my favorite class of all is the swashbuckler.

It's really great. The upside down me as a consumer is, aside from giving rakish audacity an English name it's the same as the book version. (Oh, and clearer description of the abilities).

So no dollars from me. Though I have read it and think the book is great for a FR based campaign. I also borrowed a Volo's from someone for the Xvarts and Kobolds (running UK2 which has Xvarts which I've visually changed to Kobolds).

There's enough there that I may get it as my campaign will face some Gnolls next and then head into the Broken Lands of Mystara. If you can't use it there, you can't use it anywhere.

Flipping casually though it didn't do anything for me. But actually reading Guide to Monsters at least sparked my imagination enough to give it another look.

If I were new to D&D, is get Guide to Monsters in heart beat. But it competes with stuff like Complete Guide to Humanoids for my reading time. And I already have that.

Embarrassment of riches, as it were.

It is essentially confirmed Fighters won't get any more than these. Knight got rolled into Cavalier, Sharpshooter was the lowest scoring subclass from the UA so it won't be in, and both Scout and Monster Hunter got moved to Rogue and Ranger respectively. So no more Fighters.

My biggest question is does any class get MORE than 3. Phoenix, Sea and Stone sorcerers all had fans and fill in a need. I could see them all getting in, but that would mean Sorcerer gets 5, which seems like too much.
oh dear, the scout got moved to Rogue? That's going to disappoint two of my players.
