D&D 5E Any 20 level Beast Rangers out there?

I especially curious how a 20 level Panther, Wolf, or Ape would look. With 5 ASIs, which would max it's attack stat and give it a decent Con, and getting to add your Prof bonus of +6 to it's AC, skills, saves, attacks, and damage makes it feel like it would be pretty powerful.

I haven't had time to stat one out yet.

A warhorse has been trained for war and wearing armor. The MM specifically calls out the warhorse as the one animal that can wear armor by default.

The DM can, of course, allow the ape to be trained to wear armor (and potentially, even use weapons) but that can't be assumed. The DM is also well within his or her rights to say, no you can't have a war-ape.

A wizard probably has a 16 to 20 Int but he still can't wear armor (by default).

A wizard can take a feat or multiclass to wear armor. That’s what their intelligence affords them.

3E had rules on teaching your animals tricks, and I believe Armor proficiencies counted as that. I’d look there for some ideas if your DM is open to it. I probably would allow it if I were your DM, but maybe I wouldn’t let it stack with their natural armor or proficiency bonus to armor.

Who cares about barding when you have a max Dex and can add a +6 proficiency bonus to it for a minimum of 21 AC? Of course I'm talking high levels here but still...

Sorry no help from me on this one I have a high level campaign but no one wants to play Ranger past level 5 (had a ranger/rogue for a scout/sniper type build) it is just so underwhelming and no one wants to play beats master because everyone looks at the beast and like whats the point

You're not going to mistake the ranger + beast damage for the damage of a two handed weaponPC, and there will be a lot of battles where your companion is not useful due to mvement, range and other limitations, but it is fine. Good enough. If you like the concept of the subclass, play it. If you're more concerned with optimizing damage, look elsewhere.
