It's a clickbaiter's joke. He tells you that, right at the beginning that it's a joke for entertainment value only. "Alpha Investments" is "Dude who sells his magic cards on ebay, tries to funnel people to his patreon, and posts outrageous stuff to get attention for clicks." When the taco-hat-wearing guy tells you a friend of a friend of a friend said they were speculating maybe something could happen some day...don't give him more clicks.

Way to kill my dreams, I'd love to see Hasbro sell WotC to a better company, still 2021 is way too far away.

I wonder, who would be in a position to buy such a company as WotC?

That's one of the main reasons to doubt the story: basically nobody is in a position to both care enough to purchase WotC and have the resources. Nevermind that Hasbro doesn't sell, they acquire.

One presumes the 2021 date is chosen so that the rumormonger won't be held accountable due to people forgetting this by then

I don't know. I like the Hasboro approach at the moment. They attempted to monetize d&d like crazy in 4e days and lost a huge part of their player base in exchange for seeking a growth and splat and subscription based model. (not saying if 4e was good or bad game). They also were interested in doing this to push games and or movies from the new D&D (still probably are but maybe not quite as much of a push about doing it).

5e isn't trying really new monetization strategies and it's being wildly successful for an rpg. It sustains itself and makes good money for an rpg. Hasboro has it off it's radar as a brand they can milk incredible profits from. D&D is in a really good place at Hasboro for the moment IMO.

People do understand that WotC makes Magic: The Gathering, right? One of the biggest cash cows in the games industry? Hazbro would be absolutely insane to give that up for any amount of money.

Nevermind, I thought the thread said sale D&D. It says sale WOTC. You are 100% correct.
