Well, it's nice to see DocMoriartty quote me and then immediately put me on ignore so I can't see what he quoted me for. Can't say I'm all that surprised with that level of integrity, based on earlier posts...

I never implied that white males are unable to understand what white privilege is. I am a white male, as are many others who have commented here and we completely get it. I'm saying he doesn't get it, by what he's saying, because what he's saying is literally the definition of what white male privilege is. If someone is going to make a sexist comment, then they absolutely should be called out on it. Because you don't like it for whatever reason doesn't matter to me at all. Trying to silence other people for pointing it out does nothing but make the problem worse, because it normalizes it, and ironically sets the stage for you to enjoy that privilege yourself because you're not one of the people being adversely affected by those beliefs.

I think there is a big difference between saying "you don't get it," and "like a typical white male, you don't get it." Put another way, answering "of course you would think that, gringo" is not a rebuttal that advances the argument. To use the example you mentioned, there is a world of difference between calling out a sexist comment and dismissing the commenter as a "typically misogynist male." Again, labelling an interlocutor doesn't actually advance your argument.

Until you remove ANYTHING and EVERYTHING from admission guidelines and hiring requirements that are not directly and 100% related to experience, talent, and qualifications to do the work you will have people complain and they will have a right to complain because this is a country of free speech.
That sounds nice and all, but it’s an impossible goal. Human brains are flawed and irrational, and incredibly prone to unconscious bias. There will always be admission and hiring guidelines not 100% related to experience, talent, and qualifications. The only thing that removing such guidelines officially would accomplish is to insure that all such guidelines are unstated, unchallenged, and determined entirely by the hirer’s unconscious biases.

Would you have bee happier if I had said Mearls had insulted 99.99999% of his customer base while taking a swipe at .0000001% for their actions? My point was and still is that he made a very stupid tweet that insulted far far more people than it legitimately targeted and that was dumb of him to do.
I understand your point, I just don't agree. I'm sure there were some who were insulted, but I believe the percentage is far smaller than the number you quoted. And I disagree with your assessment that it was "dumb" as well, because I believe more people were impressed than insulted. It's just a hunch, of course. But if I'm right, that would make this a very smart move.

You'd almost certainly be just as wrong. I think it's a very small minority who actually felt insulted by his tweet. And probably a much larger proportion who agree with the sentiments expressed.

Show me anywhere in my comment when I said "typical white male" or "typically misogynist male". I've never said anything of the sort. And if you're going to tell me I need to stop talking based on things I never said and you're making up, then that speaks volumes about you and your biases.

I've never understood the urge to "ignore" another poster. Besides, you can just launch another browser and view the thread without logging in, so...

Yeah.

I'm sorry but your tone was definitely giving me that impression. Though I'm 1/8th Cherokee and immune to insults to my white heritage as a result.

Good day sir.
