D&D 5E Specters and Revivify

No idea what the 'official ruling' could or should be, I just know that this would give the DM a great story making opportunity so he should run with what will enhance the story or just be fun.

No. You posted something and didn't back it up with any sources at all. In previous editions, the information about the caster was known, but the only limitations on willingness were from the raise dead and resurrection spells themselves. There was not some universal "you cannot compel a soul to return from death" rule.

Right... The op covered that.


Because Crawford does have a specific ruling that says that using revivify on a character raised as a zombie brings back a zombie, not the original dead creature.

And like I said - revivify doesn't offer a choice. It just works.

Sorry, missed that one, since I was writing my own post! Thanks for the reference.

However, I'm not so sure that an entry under the sub heading "Magic in your world" in the Chapter marked "A world of your own" qualifies as rules. At best it's one example of how to work it... which was my point in the first place.
