I suspect the social nature of D&D is the reason for this boom in the hobby right now. So much of our hobby entertainment is focused around solitary feeling activities right now due to the pervasiveness of technology and its influence on gaming culture. The social nature of D&D is a welcome contrast in that it creates a reason to talk and meet. It's kind of ironic for introverts like me who were attracted when we were younger to the small shared experience of D&D versus larger scale activities. I'm glad to see a reason for community to light such a fire, it gives me hope that personal connections are still important and matter.
