The most important data is not objective data (or statistical data) but this: will my wallet stretch far enough to cover the price of the RPG item? If the answer is No, then it's overpriced … for me.
However I could be clever and spread the effort: put it on my Christmas / Birthday Wish List and see if my friends / family will join up to buy it for me.

I'm a bit different. My wallet will stretch, but for some reason I'll easily drop $60 on dinner for me and my family that will be done in an hour, but will hem and haw over whether or not to spend $40 on something I will use for years. It's odd.

What I meant by objective is that we can see what the cost of books are for every year, and look at inflation, and other measurable factors. So you might be able to say that the book is currently overpriced for you, but it’s odd to say it’s overpriced for that book and not all the others, when there is no real significant difference when you factor in things like inflation. I’m fact, the rate of increase of price for rpg books has gone up less than comic books.
