The question always was: how was it written?

I created a Twitter account just to ask that question. It was my first tweet!

I shall not tweet in vain!

Color me dubious.

It's not that I have anything against errata per se, but Sage Advice has started making significant (and often bizarre) changes to the rules under the guise of "clarifications." As long as it's just Jeremy Crawford's Twitter feed, I can roll my eyes, make a few snarky comments on ENWorld, and carry on, unaffected by the latest silliness.

But if players start showing up to my table with PHBs that have different rules from the one I've got, it's going to be a significant problem. I firmly believe that all house rules should be explicit and accessible to the group; you should never have to guess whether the DM is using the rules in the Player's Handbook. If the rules in the Player's Handbook change, that becomes much harder to sustain.

???

No I won't take every advice but what is he changing? His latest reading was the same as my first interpretation. Start with an attack and then smash down.

It is also not the first errata. A few rules were clarified. A few oversights were taken out. Some contradictions.
Regarding barkskin, you can read it that way or differently. I am really not sure what your problem is actually?

Hi, I'm a Mindflayer, but don't let that worry you
I'm curious to see what they changed in the PHB. There can't be that many things that need errata, can there?

The only thing that comes to mind is the Conjuration spells and deciding what creatures are summoned (By RAI, the DM is supposed to choose; players just choose the number of creatures and their HD).

My hope is they clarify that an animal companion of a Beastmaster Ranger continues to do whatever it was doing when it got its last command from the Ranger if it receives no contrary command.

That’s one of my those ‘don’t put your hands in the lawnmower’ type clarifications.

That would be a nice boost to beastmasters without really tinkering with the rules.

Unless every single player in your games is using original, 1st printing books, this is already happening. There has been updated errata with every new printing. The last errata that was released two years ago was for the 6th printing. So that means there are already six versions of the PHB out there with slightly different text than the previous version.
