I am running my first session in a homebrew world I came up with. I originally had planned to leave the gnomes alone but a player described his gnome character. Long story short.... Space Gnomes! Now I need to change out the Forest Gnomes ability to speak to animals. Please help

As a big fan of forest gnomes, I'm comfortable saying that their ability to speak with animals is simply a fun flavorful feature that can be dropped without balance issues of any sort.

So come up something fun and useless that feels like "space gnomes" and you'll be good. Let him speak Wookie, maybe.

That would work just fine. I'd say prestidigitation is probably the most gnomish of them all. Well, druidcraft would be if you weren't going for space gnome.
