D&D (2024) Scoring abilities of 2024 Species (and looking back to MotM)

An extra d6 doesn't make up for the damage lost to accuracy, and you just told me that rogues will struggle due to lower AC but now you're telling me they sacrifice some AC for this build anyway?

The difference in AC is 2 or 3 points with the Sage option. That's easily manageable with the Moderately Armored feat and we have a rogue that favors perception more than stealth as opposed to favoring stealth more than perception but still excellent in both because of expertise.

I'm curious what this build is that warrants Truestrike and DEX instead of a the casting stat to use Truestrike..
There is no accuracy loss in using True Strike versus a normal ranged weapon

I think you are misunderstanding what I am saying

If you are making a True Strike build generally you get to 20 int/whatever as soon as possible

Then you would focus on maxing dexterity for AC

It is harder to do this with sage because you cannot start with 16 in dexterity

That is all I meant

Starting with a 14 DEX is still only 1 point in AC behind. The rogue in armor has a 14 AC instead of a 15 AC. But by using the Sage background for the Magic Initiate feat the rogue can skip the armor completely for Mage Armor and still have that 15 AC too that the High Elf did not supply.

If the build is focused on INT/whatever asap and then DEX the Sage can to that. 10 STR, 15 DEX, 14 CON, 12 INT, 16 WIS, 8 CHA based on standard array.

I agree, just generally if one is making a rogue build centered around True Strike they will prioritize the spellcasting modifier used, otherwise there is not much point in taking it. That said, I can see many optimizers choosing High Elf or Human so they can get +2 Int +1 Dex and True Strike on a Rogue. Particularly Alert from Criminal and Magic Initiate from Human together make a strong rogue build that allows for that stat combination.

Sage is still always an option, one that I am using in a character of mine because it fits the rp well

It really depends on what you roll. When you consider +2/+1 Your chance of being able to start with a 16+ in both Dexterity and at least one other stat is about 50% if you roll 4d6 drop 1 and you put your highest roll in dex and put the +2 in either Wisdom or Intelligence.

If you are going for Charisma it is less.

I was assuming points buy where you allocate 15 in dex and mind stat sorry
