It's much the same approach that GoS took to adding a Tiefling (there is one NPC from the cambion-ruled nation there, but the book goes out of its way to say that tieflings/dragonborn PCs would be treated as utterly alien). It's one I largely agree with.

Umm, no it doesn't? See, this is why I have such a tough time with these arguments. Folks are just making stuff up to support their points rather than actually LOOKING at what's there. I mean, THIS is the relevant part of GoS:

Ghosts of Saltmarsh said:
The minions of Juz have only rarely come into direct conflict with Keoland, and its ongoing war with Keo-land's rivals makes the nation an acceptable trade part-ner in the eyes of the king. The emissaries from Iuz pay on time and they buy shiploads of fish at once, so no one inquires too closely into the captain's sepulchral voice or her penchant for wearing gold jewelry etched with grim designs.

That's IT. That's the sum total of reaction. No "utterly alien" or poor treatment is mentioned AT ALL.

Your argument doesn't actually reflect anything that's actually written.

What I am not in favor for is change for the sake of change. 4e Dark Sun took two of its unique-looking races, Dray and Half-Giants, and made them Dragonborn and Goliath under different names. That weakened what Dark Sun was, and I don't want the same to happen to Greyhawk.

The changes GoS made by adding a Tiefling were positive; none of the old material was contradicted, the setting's tone remained consistent, and a race was introduced that made sense within the context presented. The same can be done with other races like Dragonborn.

EDIT: I think I've made my case here, not sure I have anything more to add.

Yet, Dark Sun 4e was very popular and sold very well. We played it and had no problems using Dragonborn for Dray. No problems whatsoever. Works fine.

But, what tone are you talking about? The mythical tone you keep insisting is there in the face of considerable evidence to the contrary? Saltmarsh features numerous non-humans working side by side humans. Danger at Dunwater features the humans making peace agreements with the lizard folk to battle the Sahuagin. There are a bajillion examples of humans working with non-humans. The notion that adding dragonborn will somehow "weaken" the setting is ridiculous.

They've already do that with the dray.

Considering how gonzo Mystara is, limiting a race from the PHB would be a bad joke. Seriously with nagpa, aranea, diabolus, hsiao, phanatons, and lupins you want to die on the hill of dragonborn?.

And look how well 4E was recieved. 4E DS was a big miss and completely failed to evoke the original. They gave it a Arabian nights vibe.

The Seat were different in 2E and the 2E metaplot isn't well regarded in any event because they blew up the world.

And not only that the Dray weren't wandering about. They were a hidden menace and then later mysterious spies from meh Darksun material.

refresh my memory here... didn't the 2E Chainmail miniature game get set in western Oerik? Can't recall if there was a map or not...

Yeah, in the north west corner of Oerik. I've seen fan maps that incorporate it, along with the stuff from Dragon Annual #1. Commie dwarfs are the sort of neat little thing that I like as C canon, certainly not to everyone's taste.

What are you talking about?

4e Darksun was very well received by 4e players. It was very popular and widely used.

from what I remember about Chainmail and the thundering lack of interest in it... best to just pretend it never happened... I'd much rather have a Far Eastern type of setting there. Come to think of it, at least one of the (many) maps I drew up of Oerik did just that....

Note the key part 4E players. There wasn't enough of them to keep it going.

And 4E butchered the Realms as well. They fixed that best they could, I wouldn't hold out much hope of 4E Darksun updated.

The Dragon Annual #1 map had pastishe versions of China, Japan and India in the midsection of the continent with a fantasy Egypt in the south west.
