D&D 5E New Cover for Eberron: Rising from the Last War

The new cover for the upcoming Eberron: Rising From the Last War has been revealed by WotC. This cover by Wesley Burt depicts a warforged wizard and their halfing companion in the Demon Wastes.

Jeremy Crawford and Greg Tito discuss the new cover in this video. A couple of weeks ago, Jeremy Crawford stated that the previous cover by Ben Oliver was an interior illustration serving as a placeholder cover. They expand on that in this video:

Tito: We have decided to change this cover, though. We are going with a different cover for this book.... we had the rare opportunity to change that because the files had not yet been sent to the printer.

Crawford: That's right. When the book was announced, we were still about a week out from sending the books to the printer... we had a window of time to swap out the cover, which was actually something we had been discussing for some time leading up to the announcement.

Tito: But, once we announced, we also recieved a lot of feedback from fans saying that they wanted a different cover and that feedback really galvanized us... so we are changing it to this cover designed by Wesley Burt.

The painting was already in the book, and was moved to the cover, while Ben Oliver's previous cover was moved to be the chapter opener for the first chapter (character creation).

What is that black banner with the gears in the upper left corner? Is that a mark to designate "Eberron" content?

I would assume so. Lots of the older 5e adventures have them (idk about more recent stuff since D&D Beyond doesn't add them in), usually marking storylines (not that any adventures were storylines except Tyranny of Dragons)

This is two or three steps away from my Ideal Eberron book cover image:

A Lighting Rail speeding through a city. On it's back, a Warforged Caster and Changeling Rogue fire shots at an aggressive hafling pack riding on the back of Glidewings. In the Locomotive, a panicked Dwarven Artificer mans levers and engine, protected from the rain incoming attacks by a human fighter activating her Mark of the Sentinel.

Eberron aficionados would point out that the dwarf artificer would have to be a human with the Mark of Passage in order to drive the lightning rail train.

Yes, the books mostly have Icons like that for catagorization purposes, though Tyranny of Dragons is the only time multiple books use the same Icon. You can also see the Icons on DMsGuild, in relation to the "Storyline" catagory.

I would like to counterpoint that Dragonmarks are only required for normal operation of elemental-bound vehicles. Emergency operation can be attempted by anyone who wishes to pit their skills against the creature. Though obviously having some kind magical affinity for either artifice or elemental creature control is preferable when attempting such a critical task.

Definitely getting the alt cover, but happy to see Talenta halfling and his pall get some good exposure. Are they in Droam or something?

I believe Crawford and Tito said it was the Demon Wastes.

Yikes. This is nearly as bad as the "placeholder" art, which I still think wasn't placeholder art, but then they saw the slew of negative comments and quickly hired someone to slap together this version. Not only does it appear rushed, it has way too much empty space.

Its WotC. Your first mistake was having expectations.
