D&D 5E (2014) Blue Dragon Alcoholic?

Zardnaar

Legend
In my not Egypt game blue dragons are the most common type.

The god Kings and queens can keep the not Nile area secure but the deep desert is their territory.

I often like being able to have PCs interact peacefully with Dragons. They're LE but rational if greedy beings. Blue dragon mafia.

If a Dragon can extract 100 go in tribute a year they can get 100k over 1000 years so they don't need to be overly aggressive to build a hoard. They can easily wait for a war and do a bit of plundering then wait a decade or Century.

Anyway I have a pair of blue dragons, brother and sister. They're rivals but don't want a direct confrontation at least not without stacking the odds.

They're both rational, one demands tribute, the other expects tribute (advantage on persuasion checks if freely offered)

I gave them some personality traits. The male like music and ale, the female tends towards philosophy and history. They have Gnolls in their areas.

Playing off the players as a pair of them want to use downtime to export Nurian (not Egypt) beer. I figured if they are willing to pay tribute cash and ale the Dragon could be happy enough to let them pass through his territory. If they help him deal with his sister (or vice versa) they might be able to contribute to the hoards and hire the dragon.

So your thoughts on my setup and how much booze could get a dragon drunk? Would other Dragons think the ale one is a deviant?

3.x Draconomicon said that huge dragons weighed roughly 20,000 lbs.

According to this site, it takes ~ 30 "drinks" (shot, 12 oz beer, 4 oz wine) to get a 2,000 lb. creature to a BAC of 0.056, which is still not drunk. A 200 lb. person would be at 0.635 and probably die. That is roughly proportional, so you could assume 300+ drinks to get a 20k lb. creature to 0.05 BAC, so call it 350 to get them drunk.

That is ~ 33 gallons of standard beer to get a huge creature drunk.

I think other dragons might look on the ale dragon with disdain if it were a frequent habit of his. Also... what kind of drunk is he? A funny/laughing drunk? A depressive drunk? An angry drunk?

No idea, phb barrels are 40 gallons so figured that's enough.

Barring going drinking in humanoid form anything a dragon consumes for an effect similar to how alcohol would effect the humanoids would be absurdly lethal to humanoids. Maybe a small drizzle of liquor made from destroying angel, manichineel fruit, foxglove, and "poison fire coral"* on a whole cow produces a pleasant taste like balsamic vinegar and a light buzz for a dragon

*all of those things are absurdly lethal to ingest, but that is the actual name.

Polymorphed into human?
Same as human I would guess, their mass and stomach volume and other organs have also polymorphed.

As a dragon? hard to say I would guess an average dragon weighing about 3 tons compared to a human with 100kg that would be roughly a factor of 30, so the human drinks a mug the dragon a third of a barrel.

One mug won't do much. I'm thinking a 40 gallon barrel will give the Dragon a buzz.

In the interests of science I had a Baltika 5 and 6 last night. 485ml 7% Porter and 5.3% golden lager about 1.9 standard drinks so probably just under 4 standard drinks. Felt it no buzz.

Body mass & genetics play a large part in it too. It's not entirely coincidence that people certain regions of the world have a stereotyped reputation for drinking lots and/or seemingly not waking up with huge hangovers. I'm a big guy with ancestors from more than one of those regions & don't usually even feel a buzz unless I drink enough for most people to go well passed tipsy & have trouble simply walking in a straight line :D

Yeah you offered yourself "purely in the interest of science" thankfully you got no buzz from it which was a rather unexpected result. But the things we do are worth it, to bring the knowledge of humankind to the next level.

Thank you for couragous sacrifice! Your local pub should give you the honor doctor title :)

Two 900 ml cans of the mighty Baltika 7 gives me a buzz, each can is 3.8 standard drinks.

That's a no hangover buzz, 3 cans of Baltika 9 (5.8 standard drinks per can) is hangover time but not dribbling idiot.

Bird and Bull Export Emporium from Nuria (Midgard setting)is looking at exporting Nurika 1-9.
