Dear Fellow Players,
I can't help you if, on the first turn of combat, you all run in different directions to do your schtick on the battlefield. Cure Wounds and Turn Undead have a range of 30 feet max.

preach it. Even worse in video games. Last week my three buddies playing ghost recon, all went their different directions in the fortress, and when they inevitably went down, complained I wasn’t nearby to revive them. 🤔🤷🏼‍♂️

Dear Players:
Please, for the love of Pelor, conserve your resources. If you are assuming you will be able to take a long rest whenever you want one, without effort or consequence, you need a better plan.

If you can get away with the "15 minute adventuring day", your DM just sucks. The only time that should ever be an option is:
1. When you have spells like Leomund's Tiny Hut/Mord's Magnificent Mansion, and your enemies are not magically sophisticated enough to understand/deal with this.
2. When your adventure is against a target that consists only of mindless, non-volitional creatures (ancient tombs, perhaps).

Any other time, if you've raised the alarm, you'd better be prepared to finish the job. Not only that, I've frequently run games on a time crunch - if you only have six hours until the princess is sacrificed, or two days until the coronation, or the curse will kill the whole party if you don't eliminate it in a day... yeah, you don't have much time to rest.

Dear Player,

Whose always a half hour late and forgets your character sheet; show up on time and prepared, and stop bumming my cigarettes.

Dear players;
The books we use may be 5e, but the guy running your game is still a 1e DM....
In my experience, as a bit of a rat bastard DM, that works up to about 3rd level and then you have to change tactics. 5E characters just aren't squishy enough for 1E methods to work.

Dear Players please remind the Rotten DM that this 5E and he using 1E knowledge.

Even after playing 3 years I still occasionally think in 1E terms and rules.

Dear Convention DM and Players, please bathe before going to sit in a room all day surrounded by others doing the same. Also, deodorant is to be used in moderation.
Years ago, a convention I helped organize had a signage request for the wargamers area to put up signs requesting attendees take a shower. It met with some anger, but that year the wargame room didn't make my eyes water on Sunday morning.

Even after playing 3 years I still occasionally think in 1E terms and rules.

I've played 1e, 2e, 3x, 5e, PF1 & now PF2 - some of them on alternating weeks/days (there was a span where I was involved in a bi-weekly 1e game on Tue, 5e on Thur, & PF1 on Sunday).
Rather than shift gears terminology wise I'd just ask for whatever type of save or skill check rolled of the tongue 1st & leave it to the players to decipher. Still do.
It throws some of the younger players (or those who only know one system) for a loop. But my fellow veteran players know exactly what's going on: If you could see inside our heads? It's just a soup of 30some years & 5-6 editions of very similar rules.... But at least with D&D, pick one & odds are you'll know easily enough how to apply it no matter what the edition.
