Maybe a small mettle spend (BA, not action) and an elemental cantrip, with the elemental damage matching the cantrip? That's neat.
Hmm, something like, “spend 1 mettle as a bonus action, and an ally who can see and hear you can cast a cantrip that they know as a reaction. If they do, the weapon attacks of all allies in your presence deal the same damage as the cantrip until the start of your next turn. The ally casting the cantrip, or their target, must be within your Presence.”

Yeah, something very much like that. I think a BA plus a reaction, plus a mettle sounds like the right price. Maybe an additional mettle spend of some kind, perhaps at higher level, might be able to add an additional damage die that would also be of the elemental type.

Oh for sure. Spend another mettle to add Gambit die to damage of each attack made with the element confluence, and bam! Martial/Magic teamwork AoE.

A different way to stack damage might even be by upping the spell level and offload some of the buff to the cooperating character. Cantrip = elemental damage, level 1 = elemental damage plus a die; level 2 = elemental damage plus two dice; etc etc. We'd want to cap that some how I think, but making the extra magic do the extra damage sounds right to me. I'd also be ok with the Marshal buffing it too of course (but maybe not both).

OH, okay! So, you do the cantrip, but you can spend a spell slot to boost the damage?
So, Firebolt plus a 2nd level slot would mean all weapon attacks deal fire damage with a damage bonus equal to 2 gambit dice?

That is bloody excellent. I absolutely love it. Might have to limit the damage bonus to once/turn, since you've potentially got monks and dual wielding fighters and rangers and such. 4-6 dice per spell slot level extra damage in a round is strong, but since it requires so much action economy and resources from 2 characters, I think it's probably fine.

Yeah, cantrip as a reaction, plus extra spell levels as desired, but with some kind of cap, probably level based somehow. Maybe one level per three wizard levels? So going up one at 3,6,9,12,15 and maxing out at 6 at 18th level. Maybe that's too complicated, or perhaps should be based on the Marshal's level? IDK, but some kind of cap...

cap at 3rd, then state the cap goes up to 5th when you reach 11th level Marshal, and keep it at that?
