D&D 5E Greyhawk, and race options for Oerth PCs

Should a DM allow a player to roll a Vulcan or a Hobbit character in a Star Wars game or should he have the right to say that it's outside the limits of what he envisions for the campaign? Ultimately, that's the question. In my opinion, the DM sets the tone and, within reasonable limits, he should be allowed to exclude certain elements from the game.

See, my problem is when you phrase it like that. "Allowed"? It's not a case of being allowed to do anything. It's a case of coming together to find a common ground.

I mean, would either a Hobbit or a Vulcan actually be a problem in a Star Wars game where rabbit people are canon? Now, if you want to play a Vulcan, complete with Star Fleet and a Federation ship, then, sure, obviously that's not going to work. And, speaking purely for myself, I find I'm a lot more flexible when I realize that my choice is going to dump a bunch of work on the DM's lap.

For example, if you're doing a real Man Vs Nature style campaign where tracking food, water, disease, that sort of thing is a major element of the campaign, I'm a lot more willing to give up my Warforged character since that negates a major part of the campaign - doesn't eat and is immune to disease? Well, maybe not a good fit for this campaign.

But, OTOH, if we're playing Star Wars, and I want to play a pointy eared humanoid with a logic fetish, the DM can probably live with it. If the DM really can't, then, well, as I said earlier, it's not a deal breaker, but, it does send up some red flags.

There's other Star Wars races that can sub for Vulcans. 3 off the top of my head, Nagai look similar but aren't logic based.

I would direct a player to a similar existing race.

If someone has the final say, they're the one who will ultimately have to make a call about that kind of things. I love the way you think but I've never met a group where everyone agreed on everything and made every decision unanimously.

My experience of Star Wars is if you want to play a Vulcan it's the other players who wouldn't allow it.
Gotta move it in via Transformers, given Transformers has crossed over with both and Jawas are canonically around in the Transformers universe as per the first episode of Victory. Which coincidentally gets you access to everything from D&D as Rust Monsters are canon monsters found within the depths of Cybertron. And the GI Joe connection lets you have Yuan-Ti given Cobra-La is basically them.

Anywho,
How many DMs allow Gnolls? I do fits the setting.
I mean, based on how many people complained when they said they wouldn't release 5E rules for them, plenty of them

It's quite funny lol. Im the hardass yet I'm not telling people how to play.

I don't care what you do in your games.

I didn't bother complaining just found 3pp ones and a world for it.

They're pushing the Gnoll demon thing hard which u think is a bit stupid. Espicially if they statted out Tieflings.
