  1. It features Volothamp Geddarm.
  2. It was headed up by James Wyatt, who used to work on D&D, and now works on Magic: The Gathering. He worked on the 3E Deities & Demigods.
  3. It's based on a novella, which Wyatt spent considerable time researching.
  4. He also read about the government of Athens, and the Greek calendar.
  5. Subclasses include the College of Eloquence bard ("the philosopher ideal'), the Oath of Heroism paladin, and the Forge and Grave cleric domains.
  6. The DMG piety system has been "blown up into a huge thing"... "That includes all sorts of rewards and restrictions for characters who choose to devote themselves to a god and track their piety.”
  7. New magic items of the gods - artifacts and weapons.
  8. “Everyone gets this extra leg up that is a gift of the gods, which is separate from the usual character background. It may be a magical thing about your nature, such as you have the mind of a sphinx and your thoughts can’t be read. Or you might be an oracle, which is an opportunity for your Dungeon Master to give you plenty of adventure hooks. It’s a straight power-up but not a huge power-up”
  9. A table of omens with 100 entries.
  10. Minotaurs, centaurs, merfolk (tritons from Volo), satyrs, leonine.
  11. “The leonin is a different, stronger cat person, not just a tabaxi!”
  12. "Satyrs are pretty much as you would expect. They’re party animals with good Dexterity and Charisma, they have a headbutt attack, they’re fast, they’re fey, they resist magic and they have musical instrument proficiency and persuasion."
  13. Different lore for D&D creatures to match the Greek setting.
  14. Mythic threats are boss fights. More than legendary. Aresta of the Endless Web is a spider. Has baby spiders which fight you.
  15. Dyson Logos did the maps.
  16. "There’s a temple of Athreos in two parts, split by the river that flows between the mortal world and the underworld."

I'd love a bestiary pdf release for slivers in D&D!

If your players treat you like my opponents do when I run my sliver deck . . . . be careful what you wish for! :)

I would love to see a Magic bestiary that covers all of the interesting and unique critters of the game that aren't already in D&D . . . . going back to the 90s!

I wrote about this in the other Theros thread too, but here goes….

To James Wyatt and team: Please include as an Appendix or Web Enhancement:

1. A Greek translation of the names of all the key terms, classes, sub-classes, races, monsters, spells, magic-items, and equipment that are recommended for use in Theros. The name alone gives a Greek feeling.

Some examples:

Piety = Eusébeia

Grave = Táphos
Heroism = Hērōïsmós
Eloquence = Euglottía

College = Akadēmíā
Domain = Toméas
Oath = Hórkos

College of Eloquence = Akadēmíā tēs Euglottías
Grave Domain = Toméa tou Taphou
Oath of Heroism = Hórkos Hērōïsmoú

Bard = Mousikós (musician)
Cleric = Klērikós
Fighter = Makhētḗs
Wizard = Mágos

If I'm playing a Hellenic Adventures character, I want to be a "Makhētḗs/Mágos" rather than a "Fighter/Wizard."

2. A mention of all the Ancient Greek-themed locales in other D&D worlds, including:

In Toril: Chessenta

In Oerth: Tharquish Empire

In Mystara: Minaeans (Minoans) on the eastern continent of Skothar; Milenian colonies of the Grass Coast on the southern continent of Davania; the islands of Cathos and Vacros (from MSOLO: Maze of the Riddling Minotaur; for placement, see: http://pandius.com/vacrcath.html); Milenians (Classical Greeks) and Traldar (Homeric Greeks) in the Hollow World.

In Ravenloft: The Temple of Athena, which was drawn into the mists from the D&D World of Bacchar (presumably a "Greek Earth.") Bacchar - Mistipedia

3. A bibliography of all the Greek-themed D&D sourcebooks and adventures from previous editions. If James Wyatt wants helping listing these, feel free to contact me.

4. A simplified fantasy Greek "gamers alphabet" as a one-to-one English alphabet.

I have no desire for the translation (just provide a version in Greek instead), but a mention of other ancient Greece themed settings would be a good idea.

So is everyone else thinking centaur College of Eloquence bard with kind of Frasier Crane / Major Charles Emerson Winchester III pompous sophisticate thing? Because it's hard to nail that mid-Atlantic accent.

Not bad! A bit more expensive than the English books here in Canada, but cheaper than the French version here in Canada...
Amazon.it sells them at a lower price for the english versions i.e. approx 39 euros for DtA without shipping rates (prime). Maybe because english versions doesn't have a big appeal to italians.

Bard = Mousikós (musician)

Bard = Várdos as the typical translation but the rhapsode, aoidos, or citharode could be used just as easily. It's not like game terms are likely to be changed.

The thing to keep in mind is that a bard and a musician are not the same thing. Music is a part of bardism. Bardism is not a part of music. ;-)

I would be looking at Orpheus and related philosophies for inspiration here.
