Critical Role Wildemount has new subraces and reprints a ton of others

I like the Goblin lore, some good stuff there as well as some mechanics for the "Voice of Bane" which is cool.

Less impressed with the Orcs. Copy of Tolkien origin, though the fact that their anger issues are actually a cultural delusion is fun to play with.

I'm happy with the reprints, ESPECIALLY Orc, which implies that Eberron Orc is NOT its own thing and VGtM has been errata'd.

I meant some of these races (like Goblins) should appear in the next edition's PHB, because eventually that WILL happen.

That all said, I wasn't expecting like 90% of Volo's Guide to Monsters PLUS other racial option goodies from past books to be reprinted. They were so quiet about the races stuff that it seemed as if there was NO racial options, just the 3 new subclasses for Player material.

And I'm happy to learn that there are NEW options for races too, like Pallid Elf, Lotusden Halfling, and the aforementioned Dragonborn variants. Sweet!

Yeah caught me by surprise too, usually they brag about that kind of stuff. Makes me wonder what might be in Mythic Odysesseys of Theros that they haven't mentioned.

Goblins should be in the 5.5e or 6e PHB, clearly.

If they're being reprinted that many times, they're really a core player race to too many settings to push off to splatbooks.

I'm wondering how many of these reprints are because Wildmount grew out of Critical Role games that would have played through the various splatbooks of 5e and players would have been like, "oo! shiny new race in this book!!"

Also, this is GREAT news for Core+1 games. I'm guessing they only got away with it because Wildmount in all likelyhood will NOT be AL-legal…
B-b-but, you'd be copying Paizo by adding Gerblins to teh Core! Muh Core traditions! /s

Hadn't even THOUGHT of that. Maybe MOoT will be bursting with content they haven't hinted of!!!!!

Let the past die, kill it if you have to. There are no cows so sacred that I'm opposed to slaughtering them.

Back on topic, I just noticed that the awkwardly named Draconblood Dragonborn are identical in origin and backstory to the Draconians in the Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting. This suggests to me that WotC told Matt, you gotta renamed that subrace, because we're holding back Draconians in their CLASSIC metallic and explosive form in a new book we're working on…

I find it unlikely that I'll purchase the book, given that I own many other 5E books, and, of course, I've bought the pdf which features the Tortles. I have no real interest in Wildemount, so, I'll probably pass on this purchase.

Theros, however, has been one of my favorite M:TG settings other than Mirrodin/New Phyrexia since its release, so, I will most likely purchase that sourcebook.

I don't know if they are working on Dragonlance yet, but I'm betting there are at least plans for it and yeah they are undoubtedly saving the name for Dragonlance, which as a Dragonlance Mercier is ubdoubtedly fine with.

Oh, and Ravenite is statted COMPLETELY differently from Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting. I guess Matt Mercer is always tinkering with these creations (see Blood Hunter), and I wouldn't be surprised if WotC had a look or two in the re-balancing of the subrace.
