Fading Suns Hits Kickstarter

Fading Suns: Pax Alexius hit Kickstarter earlier this week, and has smashed through its funding goal and hurtling towards the $100K level. It's a classic RPG set in the far future when the stars are starting to die.

The Kickstarter is being run by Ulisses Spiele, and includes three core books -- the Universe Book (setting), Character Book (rules and character creation), and Gamemaster Book (example adventure, guidelines, etc). There are also additional books and accessories, like tokens, GM screen, and so on.

Fading Suns was first published in 1996 by Holistic Design. It's set in a medieval-esque space empire, long after the heights of human civilization. It has some of the feel of Dune, WH40K, and so on.

It's not a cheap Kickstarter -- the lowest pledge level is €50 for the PDF version, or €100 for the print version (all three books). But you get a lot of content for you money!

People claiming ANY number need to be taken, not with a grain of alt, but with a whole truck of salt! Claiming 'easily' 18+ months is a bunch of panic mongering! Sure, this has to be taken seriously, this can be very bad. But let's not repeat everything you hear crackpots say.

Interesting franchise, but I hate the trope of the Religion vs Science. This is a false dilleme.

In my homebred setting the technophobic factions aren't religious cults but malthusian who thinks we should live with a low-level life to save recourses. But the true root of the problem isn't the lack of sources, at all, but the bad management by the people who monopolize the economy and don't worry for rival company stealing clients and only tax-payers, not themself, will suffers the consequences of their mistakes.

It's about 500 pages, but yeah, it's not cheap. To compare, Ptolus was 672 pages for $40 in PDF.

The big difference is that for Ptolus they will be able to re-use a lot of the artworks in the original product while this new Fading Sun edition seems to use a whole new set of arts compared to it previous edition. This make it a far more expansive project.

However, I do feel the project is expansive but maybe not so much for it scope - they are planning so many books and expansions already.

I’m repeating what health officials have said. It probably will take that long or longer to get a vaccine, and it may very well take until we have a vaccine for things to go entirely back to normal. Especially for vulnerable groups.

Exactly, this is what the experts are putting out. 12 to 18 months is not far fetched or fear mongering at all. It's just being bluntly realistic.

And yet the print edition of Ptolus for 5e was $150, because the unwanted 3rd edition PDFs where being added to the print copy.

There's an adventure in the Gamemaster Book.

"The Gamemaster Book (96 pages) presents people, places, and plots for Fading Suns. Herein are guidelines for creating dramas for the player troupe and how to populate them with all manner of non-player-character allies, rivals, and foils. An example drama is included, as well as a roll-by-roll description of play.

At least, I'm assuming "a drama" is their term for "an adventure".

Adventures are nice to have, but should live on their own books (or PDF) instead of taking pages from a core rulebook.
