The entertainment magazine Variety has joined the long list of mainstream publications who have published articles about D&D in recent years. I would rather discuss why you think someone's character is being impinged. I have made zero value judgements and even supported Joe's right to do whatever he wants in his home game. If you think I'm somehow suggesting these things are a negative, you are conflating me with the argument of some other poster.
The argument for a 'PR' component was a key part of the argument for the inclusion of female players, or not, being an actual issue and a failure of Manganiello's vis a vis representation. If you aren't linking the two that's fine, but I still don't agree with you that the game can or should be primarily described as a 'PR' game.

I think Umbran is the one who said that.
He was, in support of the notion that representation of female players should be a criteria by which Manganiello's game should be judged. The two items have been married for pretty much the whole thread. If all you're saying is that there might be some ancillary benefit to having a guy like DB Weiss play in your home game then sure, I guess, but why is that important absent the rest of this conversation?

I don't see my posts as joining your discussion, just posting my own observations. More generally, I think there is a problem with posters being lumped together with other posters as if there was some monolithic argument where "sides" have to be taken. More realistically there are a myriad of people posting, each with their own points and nuance that don't necessarily agree with other posters who share similar but still different positions.

Well, yeah, threads are ongoing discussions, with many points of view being offered. That doesn't need to be binary, no, but when what you posted is a natural continuation and outgrowth of previous posts and discussion you can see how someone might connect the two, at least when you didn't make any attempt to separate them, that I saw anyway. That's not an accusation or critique of your posts, simply an observation about where it appears they fit. I wasn't trying to generalize or misrepresent your posts.

It's fine. It's something that happens on any forum with any conversation. Narratives of Us vs Them are much easier and more engaging than tracking a dozen different people and the specifics of their individual posts. I'm not sure I can even blame people for grouping posters who say similar things, since keeping them separate takes much more time than most of us have to spare.

I would not ever call Enworld closed minded and unwelcoming. What a strange thing to post?!
We have some posts in this very thread doubting the sincerety of the group. There are some posts bemoaning the lack of representation and saying they must only play with guys. There are some posts with assumptions of what their playgroup is like already in mind.
But I guess all of that still means a welcomingness and openmindedness. Yeah.
