The original Book of Fiends came out back in the early-2000s for D&D 3.5. It compiled Legions of Hell, and Armies of the Abyss, Green Ronin's two previous books (the former was one of my favourite third party 3.5 books at the time).

This is a 200-page book with over 130 demons, devils, and over plane denizens, the Lords of Hell, Demon Princes, and Exarchs of Gehenna, and monsters from CR 0-31.

Why Game on Tabletop, and not Kickstarter? Green Ronin's Chris Pramas says --

I like GR books but will this contradict the core FR devils and hell's or complement them?

Both.

I owned the original book. The devils and demons fit pretty seemlessly into the core D&D cosmology. The neutral evil fiends, not-so-much. They are essentially an alternative "family" of neutral evil fiends for D&D's yugoloths. Alternative, or along-side . . . no reason why we can't have multiple neutral evil fiend families causing mortals all sorts of grief!

The original was a damn fine book, and the updated version should be pretty amazing as well.

I have the original as well and like it a lot.

They also had a slightly different set of arch devils and lore for the existing ones, Leviathan instead of the ice guy comes to mind. Mostly they are compatible though and the new devils fit in easily, I slotted them into my game without problem.

The Daemons (NE fiends) are based off of feeding on the seven deadly sins and include a bit of the 2e Yugoloth blood war mercenary concept as well IIRC. The seven NE sin lords do not really fit into the Yugoloth lore of Anthraxus and Oinodaemon stuff though.

Most of the Demon Lords fit in easily and they had alternate names for some D&D standards.

One issue with the original was the low CR of a lot of the fiends. Some of the minor demon lords and devil nobility were fully statted out and I remember a big fat one with a face in his belly and lore about him wrecking empires single-handedly but his stats being CR 10 which was a big mismatch between the lore and the stats. Not a problem if you go with the Aspect theory of fiend manifestations, but it is there.

Personally after having experienced backing green ronin products I wouldn't. Reasons still waiting on one kickstarters 2 years later with who knows when it will rap. Also they shipped some of the product before there backers got it.

What are you still waiting on? I've backed most of their Kickstarters, and I've gotten everything (I think, now I feel like I need to check).

Backed. I own 5e Book of the Righteous, but this looks even better!

I love green ronin. But that is the book I liked the least. I found it pretty bland. Not useless. But nothing amazing about the pantheon presented. I love their other d&d supplements, mutants and masterminds, dragon age, and other products.

I don’t know which one Brian was referencing but the backers of the Lost Citadel for 5E are still waiting for the physical books which is almost 2 years behind schedule....

I am one such backer and indeed I'm still waiting for the project to be completed. A partially mitigating factor (at least for me) is that the main author, C. A. Suleiman, was removed from the project and that certainly caused a major disruption. I had good experiences with all others projects from GR that I've backed.
