D&D 5E Is Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden the New D&D Adventure?

It looks likely that the upcoming D&D adventure is indeed an Icewind Dale based storyline called Rime of the Frostmaiden!

It looks likely that the upcoming D&D adventure is indeed an Icewind Dale based storyline called Rime of the Frostmaiden! I can't vouch for the veracity of this, but I was cc'd into a Tweet by Navy DM on Twitter who says they found it on Reddit.

Feel the cold touch of death in this adventure for the world's greatest role playing game.

UPDATE -- the awesome Geek Native ran the small cover screenshot through an image enhancing application, to create the larger image below.

There's a post here on Reddit which says "The DnD Beyond YouTube channel posted a trailer for a new book, Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden, then immediately deleted it." The post has been removed since. I found the above image posted by somebody called smightmight, who looks like they screen grabbed it from the video before it was removed.

The Frostmaiden is one of the names of Auril, an evil goddess in the Forgotten Realms. You can read more about her on the Forgotten Realms wiki.

Rime is ice which forms from water droplets on surfaces.

An Icewind Dale setting was the current favourite guess for the location of the new D&D adventure based on various hints from WotC, including this snowy owlbear t-shirt!

(thanks to Pixellance for pointing me at this!)

Um... no thanks. Can I play the adventure anyway? :(

Seriously, who thought this was a good tagline?

"Come feel the cold touch of death at McDonald's."

Not the best way to sell a product.

I mean, when you enter a haunted house or roller coaster they use pretty similar language. Most people recognize that buying a book does not actually mean DEATH.

I like the tagline, sells that you should be trepidation when playing the adventure. Which a lot of people like, as Perkins pointed out when saying "If you like Curse of Strahd, you'll like this." Scary doom will probably be a theme.

A good website to find reviews of DM's Guild products is . . . . the DM's Guild!
The reviews are generally pretty reliable, too. I've only bought one turkey that got good reviews, but at 99 cents (and not having done a thorough read of it before running it), I can't complain too much.

I've bought a good number of things there -- and downloaded more that WotC has offered for free during the pandemic, which is a resource everyone should keep an eye on, IMO -- and I've been generally pleased by the overall quality.

This weekend, I'll be using two new purchases, one about running better barroom brawls, and one about ratfolk (while I want for the 5E Ptolus stats for them, which will likely be months in the future at least).

What I am concerned about is the kind of stuff found in the discussion on this product. It's not only a Guild Adept product but also a charity product and it is still apparently pretty sloppy. This is what I mean when I say editorial oversight is extremely important.
So, ask on here and RPG.net. I'm always happy to discuss any PDFs I've purchased from DMs Guild or RPG Now. I wrote up a decent-sized breakdown of the Beowulf: The Hermit's Sanctuary quickstarter on RPG.net the other day, as the official Kickstarter campaign has at last launched for that.

I've found that even terrible scenario pdfs can be useful in giving you an idea to run with. I'd recommend having a look through the various scenarios you do like, noting the publisher and author, and seeing if they have done any other work.

Sure. But it's still a hurdle.
It surely is. I read hundreds of homebrew stuff on Reddit and other sites; I doubt I actually use more than 1% of what I look at.

It's still better than restricting oneself to official material, though.
