RPG Sales for Black Lives Matter

If you would like to give something to the Black Lives Matter movement, there are some great RPG-related options!

PocJeR.png

  • DMs Guild has a Black Lives Matter spotlight. You can buy D&D material from people of color. There are 11 items in the spotlight, including a couple of bundles. One of them, a Black Lives Matter bundle, has nearly 30 D&D supplements heavily discounted.
  • DriveThruRPG (DMs Guild's sister site) has a spotlight page too. This includes some awesome products like the Cyberpunk Red Jumpstart Kit, and a bunch of bundles which include Rocket Age and Shadows Over Sol.
  • Itchio's MASSIVE bundle has raised nearly $5M so far, and contains over 1,000 products for just $5! They're not all tabletop RPGs, but there's a whole bunch in there including Lancer, a mech pilot RPG I've been meaning to pick up for ages!
As a side note, as I've said elsewhere on EN World, if you feel the burning need to declare that hearing about the suffering of others infringes on your gaming pleasure in some way, or that fundraisers for charity are somehow bothering you, I'd suggest you find somewhere else to say it. It's not welcome here.

I'm sorry, I have a problem with this. Black lives definitely do matter. All lives do. I don't know when saying "All Lives Matter" became a mark of racism.
Because you are interpreting it as "only black lives matter", when it means "black lives matter too".

I urge you to reconsider your use of the phrase “all lives matter”. It’s a dogwhistle term used by white supremacists.

If I told you my wife had cancer and you replied “all cancer victims matter”, I’d think you were a sociopath incapable of empathy. But you understand why you shouldn't say that. This is the same thing.

The decent, human response to “Black lives matter” is “Yes. Yes they do. And it’s so terrible that you have to remind people that they do in this world where there are people who think they don’t.”

The statement “all lives matter” is factually true, yes, but it’s not appropriate to use it in response to a phrase which means “please stop killing us because we’re black”. Sometimes context matters. Grammatical pendantry is not the way forward here; empathy and understanding why people are saying it is.

All that aside, this site is not the place to let everybody know about your problems with the BLM movement and it is emphatically NOT going to be the location for sealioning and 'debates' about the validity of it. I hope that's really clear, folks.

When the media and others Insist on someone using the words "Black Lives Matter" (without a "too") at the end, it has become a "dog whistle" of its own. It has become a way to buy into a number of assumptions with which I can't agree:
1. All the police are racist (even the AA cops?) and are openly carrying out a genocide against men of color.
2. America was founded as, and always has been, and evil, racist nation that needs to be torn down.
3. I, as a caucasian man, am inherently racist and incapable of overcoming all the inherent prejudices that go with that. Therefore, I am not entitled to any opinion on anything that has to do with racial issues.

I reject all of these. If that disqualifies me from being able to post in a public forum, even about a beloved hobby of mine, so be it. I'll be one more victim of the cancel culture. The political Left has become more fascist than I ever thought would be seen in America.

Be well.

Don't post again in this thread, please. I thought I was clear. You interpreted it as an invitation to go on an alt-right political rant.

Another problem with this term is that while most of us understand is is supposed to mean "all lives matter EQUALLY", you are right that it has been taken over by some very bad people. But that is true in most movements, whether from the Left, Right or Center. The closer you get to the fringe of the movement, the more radical and dangerous it gets.

And while it is also always true that black lives matter as much as white lives (or any of the other races/ethnicities), catchphrases and group names have to be shorter than that to catch on with the general public.

So yeah, donating to a cause is good, but like others said, vet it and make sure your money is going to a legitimate part of that cause.

A lot of 'Support BLM' donations are going directly to political movements. Specifically, the #BlackLivesMatter donations go to ActBlue, which donates to democrat election funds.

This is always true. I would add that truly ethical giving often involves looking at the administrative costs of the entity that you are giving to.

However, I do take issue with the specific post that brought this up. Without going to into the weeds, ActBlue is a payment processor for many progressive groups and nonprofits as well as Democratic candidates; however, it is not true that a donation to a group that uses ActBlue as a payment is a donation to "democrat [sic] election funds."

if this is unclear, please see:

But to reiterate- you are providing the funds to the organization in question, not to the processor.

EDIT: I would add that I think it is unfortunate that people are, hopefully unintentionally, spreading this misinformation, given that many worthy nonprofits, esp. Bail Funds and Bond Funds, utilize ActBlue for payment processing.
