[IC] Eberron: The Plumbers

Leatherhead

Possibly a Idiot.
Rotom waited anxiously.

A new round of negotiations was starting, and there wasn't much to add to the report. She found her mind drifting to the apprehended. The interrogations were going to be miserable, but undoubtedly better than finding themselves at the hands of mob justice...

She shook her head, as if hoping that the unpleasant thoughts would fall out, and began to sketch out Coal's ghulra as a distraction.

"What about the Group who tried to destroy Coal? And US? What abut the accusations of using warforged as labor without pay? There's more going on here," DePoe said.

“I agree,” Sergeant Vilroy said. “But we need more information.”

“We didn’t get a chance to interrogate the prisoners, our main concern was getting out of there with Coal intact, before more of those thugs could show up,”
Liutbrand added. “Technically, with Coal delivered and payment settled, our contract is done. Unless you’d like us to do more work for the watch?”

Sergeant Vilroy scowled. “Yes, I’d like you to follow this up,” she said shortly. “I don’t have the manpower right now. And, frankly, I’d rather avoid getting caught up in House Orien’s politics, whatever is going on. Your writ is still good,” she pointed out. “As far as I’m concerned, you’re all deputized to figure out this mess. So interrogate those kobolds, and to talk to Alden d’Orien. Get to the bottom of this.”

Ogham looks at Liutbrand, the question obvious in his face despite the lack of expression. Compensation?

Then the warforged copies his kobold friend by carving his own ghulra into a piece of wood with a carving tool coming out of his left pinky finger.

Alara had been monitoring the conversation from off to one side. But rather than addressing the sergeant, she looked carefully at Liutbrand. "I'd be available for another job," she contributed neutrally. There was just a hint of emphasis on that second to last word.

OOC: She's pushing Liutbrand to ask for more money, in case that's not obvious. :)

"...So interrogate those kobolds, and to talk to Alden d’Orien. Get to the bottom of this.”

Rotom's ears would have perked, if she had any. She snapped her gaze to Liutbrand. The question of who would be in charge of the interrogations was written in her eyes, but Lady Alara interjected first:

"I'd be available for another job,"

Embarrassed by the realization of her greenness, the kobold formulated a deflection: "Er, we could use some more supplies first, Boss. Going into a den of kidnappers and slavers is a bit more dangerous than being armed escorts."

Liutbrand nodded "Of course Rotom, that's a sensible suggestion" He then addressed Vilroy "Now sergeant, before we agree to anything, we should talk about our just compensation".

Sergeant Vilroy looked up. “You’re still here?” she asked. “What? Those kobolds won’t interrogate themselves? If you need supplies, talk to the quartermaster.”

"Now sergeant, before we agree to anything, we should talk about our just compensation,"
Liutbrand said.

Vilroy huffed out a breath to blow her hair from her face. “Figure out what’s going on, I can draw twenty-five gold pieces each for reward,” she said. “Plus you can keep anything that you find that isn’t evidence.”

OOC: You can requisition up to 5 items of Adventuring Gear under 25 gp. With a successful DC 15 Persuasion roll, one of those items can be upto 50 gp.

Alara nodded, outwardly seeming cool but satisfied with the terms. But inwardly, hope flared. If someone were risking the wrath of House Orien with a blackmail scheme, there had to be something very valuable involved. Something, perhaps, that might not constitute "evidence".

She walked with the others down to the quartermaster, waiting her turn until she could step up to the counter. She smiled at the old, one-armed dwarf. "Do you think you could spare a few things for a civilian consultant?" She asked. "We'll need some paper, a quill and ink, and some sealing wax to file reports and send messages back. Oh, and a signal whistle would be a good idea, don't you think?"

The dwarf nodded gruffly, seeming pleased enough to have some simple requests He returned a moment later and slid a small bundle of writing supplies and a battered tin whistle across the counter to her.

His one eye played along the whistle, as though expecting the aristocrat to complain about the quality, but Alara deliberately wrong-footed him. "Seen some use," she said approvingly. "Must be good if it's made its way home."

The quartermaster seemed taken off-guard by this tack, and while he blinked his one eye owlishly, Alara added, "Do you think you could spare a healing potion? It's a dangerous job, and we don't all have the Watch's training."

For a moment, the Dwarf hesitated, then he recovered himself. "Can't do it," he said gruffly. "Hazardous duty only, and I need to put a badge number down for it."

Alara nodded. "Of course," she said. "Thank you for the supplies." She stepped away from the counter.

"On to the kobolds?" She asked, after the others had finished drawing their gear.

OOC:
Items requisitioned: Ink pen, ink, signal whistle, and (if you'll count it as one) 30 sheets of paper.

Her Persuasion roll to try to talk the Dwarf out of the healing potion:
Trying to talk him out of a Cure Light Wounds potion: 1D20+4 = [7]+4 = 11

Ogham nods in response to DePoe's question. It is the warforged's intention to follow up on this investigation right away, now that payment agreements are settled.

Moving up to the one-armed dwarven quartermaster after Alara, Ogham requests simply, "Cuffs.."

He waits until the dwarf gives him a pair of manacles, then waits some more until the quartermaster, uncomfortable from the silently staring warforged that isn't moving away from the counter, hands him a few more. Satisfied, Ogham places them in his pack and moves back to the others.

OOC: Requisitioned five sets of manacles (or handcuffs that are only different fluff-wise).
