D&D 5E Midnight: Legacy of Darkness announced at GenCon Online

After more than a decade out of print, the "what if Sauron won" 3E setting Midnight is coming back in 2021 for 5E as Midnight: Legacy of Darkness, Edge Entertainment announced Thursday, July 30, at GenCon Online:


In its heyday, Midnight was one of the biggest RPG successes in Fantasy Flight's history. The setting went through two editions and was published from 2003 through 2009.

Earlier this year, Fantasy Flight Games announced they were getting out of the RPG business and their games were going to be handled by Edge Entertainment, which is at least partially staffed by former FFG designers.

Yeah, it's such a big setting, with so much to do, especially compared to some of the other dark fantasy settings that have popped up while it was out of print.

Just a minor detail: Edge is not a new studio, it has existed for a long time and has a long tradition of publishing/translating RPG materials in Europe.

This is exciting news! For such a simple premise, the Midnight setting was one of the greats of 3e.

I am so excited for this! I’ve got a complete run of the original game line, and it’s one of my favorite settings. I would kill to see this setting translated to Shadow of the Demon Lord’s system, but any new material is great news!
