D&D 5E Iggwilv/Tasha To Join Volo, Xanathar, and Mordenkainen? [UPDATED!]

Is WotC teasing a new announcement? There have been a few D&D books named after famous personalities from the game's extensive lore - Vole's Guide to Monsters, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes. It looks possible that the next such personality might be Tasha of Tasha's Hideous Laughter fame -- which was an adventuring alias of the Greyhawk villain Iggwilv. UPDATE --...

UPDATE -- A page has appeared on Amazon entitled Dungeons & Dragons November Title (Announced August 24). It's a hardcover, $49.95, November 17th release date.

On their Discord channel, WotC posted a short audio clip; it features some female-sounding voices laughing, and it is titled "Feather and Tart". It also has a metadata info which says August 24th, 2020, which is Monday. But in addition to that, a WoTC staff member on Reddit's avatar was changed to an image of Iggwilv.

Iggwilv was an evil magic-user, a villain created by Gary Gygax. When adventuring with the Company of Seven, she used the alias Tasha. The lore has it that the witch Baba Yaga adopted her as a child and named her Natasha, and she soon became Natasha the Dark (Baba Yaga also adopted Elena the Fair).

Iggwilv has two forms, one old and one young. You can read more about the character on Wikipedia.

What does seem clear is that WotC is teasing an impending announcement! I assume that the announcement they are teasing will be the announcement of an upcoming announcement, or I'll be disappointed.

Never heard of her. Only heard of Tasha's Hideous Laughter.
Of course, I hadn't heard of Xanathar either.
Deep cuts from Greyhawk and Forgotten Realms. Evidently deep cuts like this are like catnip for the fans. I never heard of Xanathar, but I learned quickly enough thanks to my FR buddies squealing over him. If this guarantees WotC insta-sales, I don't begrudge them.

They'd probably kill if someone invented algorithm that judged how long an aspect of a property has to age before it becomes bankable. Like what are the odds that a surviving the elements guide (or a psionic book) will feature a Dark Sun character on the cover?

High, but that's also too narrow a subject for a WotC 5E book, I suspect. Expanded ocean-going rules didn't get their own 5E book, they ended up in Ghosts of Saltmarsh. I'd expect rules for extreme desert conditions and psionics to both be in a Dark Sun campaign setting book, myself.

I had a player like that issue of Dungeon with the Iggwilv cover so much she decided that was what her PC looked like. So in that particular campaign, the magazine cover was also depicting one Delphyne Babelberi, a wizard (renamed a "witch," although we used the wizard class rules). Ironically, Delphyne had a raven familiar she had named Iggy - short for "Ignatius" - long before she'd ever heard of Iggwilv.

Either that or the final print issue of Dragon Magazine. Whichever came first.

It was a retcon by Erik Mona, tying together Iggwilv (a Gygax creation), the spell "Tasha's Hideous Laughter" (named after a real-life girl by that name) and the npc "Natasha the Fair" from the "Hut of Baga Yaga" adventure by Roger Moore in Dragon Magazine.

Byproduct was making Iuz the grandson of Baba Yaga. (And theres hints that one of his other grandparents is Nyarlathotep)

Fun fact is that Iggwilv is "canon" in Pathfinder, to some extent. Or at least a daughter of Baba Yaga who goes by one of Iggwilv's many names....
Excellent - thank you! Was scratching my head about this!
