WHAT WONDERFUL WITCHERY IS THIS?

A magical mixture of rules options for the world's greatest roleplaying game.

The wizard Tasha, whose great works include the spell Tasha’s hideous laughter, has gathered bits and bobs of precious lore during her illustrious career as an adventurer. Her enemies wouldn’t want these treasured secrets scattered across the multiverse, so in defiance, she has collected and codified these tidbits for the enrichment of all.
  • EXPANDED SUBCLASSES. Try out subclass options for every Dungeons & Dragons class, including the artificer, which appears in the book.
  • MORE CHARACTER OPTIONS. Delve into a collection of new class features and new feats, and customize your character’s origin using straightforward rules for modifying a character’s racial traits.
  • INTRODUCING GROUP PATRONS. Whether you're part of the same criminal syndicate or working for an ancient dragon, each group patron option comes with its own perks and types of assignments.
  • SPELLS, ARTIFACTS & MAGIC TATTOOS. Discover more spells, as well as magic tattoos, artifacts, and other magic items for your campaign.
  • EXPANDED RULES OPTIONS. Try out rules for sidekicks, supernatural environments, natural hazards, and parleying with monsters, and gain guidance on running a session zero.
  • A PLETHORA OF PUZZLES. Ready to be dropped into any D&D adventure, puzzles of varied difficulty await your adventurers, complete with traps and guidance on using the puzzles in a campaign.
Full of expanded content for players and Dungeon Masters alike, this book is a great addition to the Player's Handbook and the Dungeon Master’s Guide. Baked in you'll find more rule options for all the character classes in the Player's Handbook, including more subclass options. Thrown in for good measure is the artificer class, a master of magical invention. And this witch's brew wouldn't be complete without a dash of added artifacts, spellbook options, spells for both player characters and monsters, magical tattoos, group patrons, and other tasty goodies.

I’ve typically seen it called “book of everything” online.
How many new players to the game know what a Xanator is or how to spell it? Plus kids asking their parents for the new DND book for Christmas might be in for an unpleasant surprise.

I have literally never seen Xanathar's called a "Guide to Everything," usually it's called "Xanathar's" or "XGtE".

It's not really odd, but it is interesting, because they kind of seem to have thrown absolutely everything they've been playtesting into this, so I guess either the next setting book is pretty far out, or they're not doing un-NDA'd playtesting of it at all. The latter would make sense if it was highly distinctive of course.

They tend to test for projects sequentially, hence going from Eberron tests, to Theros tests, to Tasha's tests, and next they'll do something else.

They probably came to the same conclusion I did - there was no possible version of psionics that could get 70% approval.

Not that they would throw the feedback away - I expect it will be something quite simple, subclass and/or feat based, without any special mechanics. Mainly so they can get on with Dark Sun.

I don't think the timescale would allow for anything really radical, and the lack of mention on the official product summary suggests something low-key.

Interestingly, Crawford told Nerdarchy for their article today that the Aberrant Mind was the single best received UA playtest ever. That's surprising.

Guess the Survey went well?

Must have, but I had't thought that was the case.

I think it'll be the Psionic themed ones... and I REALLY REALLY hope they reprint the SCAG cantrips... maybe even add more of that type (a ranged weapon attack version would be cool, just for thematic reasons).

Yeah, now that the Psionic stuff is confirmed, that seems likely. Also, someone reminded me of the Summoning spells, so those are likely in there.

Maybe, but if the parents can't figure out that the new one is from 2020, I don't think calling it anything else would have really helped much in that situation.

And I've always seen it as Xanathar's or XGtE

Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes. Why not a MM 2?

Because Volos and Mordenkainen's are basically new monster manuals anyways?

I don't understand what would be different about getting an MM2 instead of those.
