WHAT WONDERFUL WITCHERY IS THIS?

A magical mixture of rules options for the world's greatest roleplaying game.

The wizard Tasha, whose great works include the spell Tasha’s hideous laughter, has gathered bits and bobs of precious lore during her illustrious career as an adventurer. Her enemies wouldn’t want these treasured secrets scattered across the multiverse, so in defiance, she has collected and codified these tidbits for the enrichment of all.
  • EXPANDED SUBCLASSES. Try out subclass options for every Dungeons & Dragons class, including the artificer, which appears in the book.
  • MORE CHARACTER OPTIONS. Delve into a collection of new class features and new feats, and customize your character’s origin using straightforward rules for modifying a character’s racial traits.
  • INTRODUCING GROUP PATRONS. Whether you're part of the same criminal syndicate or working for an ancient dragon, each group patron option comes with its own perks and types of assignments.
  • SPELLS, ARTIFACTS & MAGIC TATTOOS. Discover more spells, as well as magic tattoos, artifacts, and other magic items for your campaign.
  • EXPANDED RULES OPTIONS. Try out rules for sidekicks, supernatural environments, natural hazards, and parleying with monsters, and gain guidance on running a session zero.
  • A PLETHORA OF PUZZLES. Ready to be dropped into any D&D adventure, puzzles of varied difficulty await your adventurers, complete with traps and guidance on using the puzzles in a campaign.
Full of expanded content for players and Dungeon Masters alike, this book is a great addition to the Player's Handbook and the Dungeon Master’s Guide. Baked in you'll find more rule options for all the character classes in the Player's Handbook, including more subclass options. Thrown in for good measure is the artificer class, a master of magical invention. And this witch's brew wouldn't be complete without a dash of added artifacts, spellbook options, spells for both player characters and monsters, magical tattoos, group patrons, and other tasty goodies.

Legend
Star Wars is Anakin's story, but it's also Palpatine's story and Luke's story and Leia's story and Rey's story. No one character listed above is more important than the others in the tale (could also argue that it's Han Solo's story too, especially with the Solo solo film starting off his arc in the tale).

Pretty sure Star Wars is JUST Palpatine's story now, especially since his lineage is the only one left at the end

I hope some of the new Class options include a fighting style that give them 2 cantrips at level 1. Tha would not be too far fetched considering that the paladin and the range both get such an option. Of course, the fighter does not benefit as much, since they get cantrips anyway, but it would really help making an eldritch knight feel like one from level 1. Probably an option that allows them to blend magic and swordfighting from level 1 would be even better, but we´ll see what we get. I also hope, that the fighter gets some warlordy fighting style (although you could argue just taking the battlemaster maneuver as fighting style and taking one of the "warlordy" maneuvers might do the trick too.

It would if it gave more than a pity 1 superiority dice... The Battlemaster feels like its related to the Warlord in the same way the Eldritch Knight is related to the Wizard: it's a MC subclass rather than a full on folding of the Warlord into the Fighter (which, I think, people would have appreciated, but that's a debate for another day). The fighting style feels almost like an MC feat.

I also hope for the Ranger or Paladin styles, but I think an Arcana style for fighters would be a mistake.

Eldritch knights already getting cantrips would mean that such a fighting style would lead to them having 4 cantrips by level 3, more than anyone except the Sorcerer (and the same number as a high level druid.... why do druid's get so few cantrips???)

I get the impulse of "my concept from level 1" but I don't think it would be a good idea.

(Is ignoring the feats and races, since if you went V. Human you could end up with 6 cantrips by that path.)

I totally get your point... Maybe the 'Fighting Style' could just let you make your attacks magical? Like...

Arcane Adept
You gain proficiency in the Arcana Skill if you don't already have it. As a bonus action, you can make all your weapon attacks for the turn be considered magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance to non-magical damage. If you do so, your weapon attacks also inflict additional Force damage equal to your Intelligence modifier (min. 1).

It's a bit out there but it sorta fits the bill of making you feel more magical at level 1?

Just spitballing'.

Jedi Master
Machete-Jumping through OT and PT is fine, but you must not drop Episode I.

So glad to find someone as passionate about Episode I as I am (and for the record, I saw IV in theatres when it was just called Star Wars). But I fundamentally disagree that Machete order is fine. The series is far better in Episode order (and Episode films only first, then back to cartoons and anthology films).

I get that many of us who were shocked by the Vader reveal in V want to preserve that for other generations, and have them feel what we felt, but the turning of Anakin is a FAR more shocking twist if you are not aware it's coming. I showed my nephews (5 and 7 at the time) the series in order, and when Anakin turned they were blown away. Even better, when we got to Empire, it was still a huge moment for Vader to tell Luke he was his father, as all they could talk about after IV was why Obi-wan was lying to Luke and would Luke ever find out the truth.

That is an interesting take on the battlemaster. So you could build a warlord class that starts using superiority dice from level 1 on and probably can use them at will or has a few more uses than the fighter. That would be the first warlord concept I would really like. It does not use a new subsystem but retcons the battlemaster as fighter with warlord abilities. Actually there is already a multiclass light feet in the PHB that resembles the UA style feats.

The warlord might only wear medium armor and won't have a fighting style and no second wind or action surge. I really think that concept could actually work really well.
Probably if someone really wants some chatacter that does not fight at all, I could imagine having subclasses at level 1, one which gives Armor and weaponry, a different one that does not give armor or weapons beyon problaby wizardlike weapons and maybe some commanding presence that adds charisma to AC when unarmored.

I think it is pretty common for books like this and Xanathar's to be considered "core" by players. That's just a thing us GMs have to deal with. You could ban things, but that leads to more conflict that just figuring out how to deal with the new material. And it isn't like there aren't things that are broken -- over or under powered -- in the PHB that have to get modified or banned.
I think that where there is an opportunity, would be to allow the variants for Classes that are a bit weaker, and disallow them on the stronger classes.

For instance, I tend to be very strict on features that increase the powers of Wizards, Clerics and Druids, but more flexible on other classes. (Still don’t like Spell Flexibilty, but a I mayallow Metamagic Flexibility).

To be clear, I like Phantom Menace a lot! I actually think it’s the strongest film of the prequels. It just, again, isn’t relevant to what I think is the narrative core of the series. Episode order is fine, but it is far less narratively focused and thematically cohesive than either trilogy on its own. Machete order aims to resolve that issue; YMMV on how successfully it does so, but I think it’s the best one can do to tighten up the narrative interplay between the to trilogies short of a full-on different cut.

The sequel trilogy throws a wrench in the whole thing, but VII and VIII work as a continuation of Luke’s story.
