D&D General Miniatures shouldn't be edition-dependent (a Fire Giant size rant)

My group sometimes used miniatures back pre-3rd edition days, but the map was abstract and precise positioning wasn't important. It was more to give us an idea of how the battlefield was laid out rather than pinpoint accuracy. So I don't think scale was all that important to us back then. I used miniatures heavily with 3E and continue to make heavy use of them today so scale and precise positioning is much more important to me. I can sympathize with those who have invested heavily in miniatures only to see scales change. It can be frustrating.

Funny, I have invested heavily in minis since 2E days, but we used the Combat & Tactics book, so all the boxes and earlier versions of AoOs were familiar to us with the switch - but I have never been a stickler for scale - even when I played 3.xE - we just made it work out somehow or I reminded players of the exception/difference.

Recently, players went against a legendary crocodile. - at first the only croc toy I could find was WAY too big - but then I found a less impressive but more accurate one. When the croc emerged for the first time to eat a lizardfolk, I used the big one for the impact but then switched to the correctly sized one for actual play.

The too big one is below. The actual scale one was about two boxes long.

I come from playing 1e in the 80s, but skipped 3e, so I understand the general tag, but I would expect things to mostly follow the current edition on a forum.
Well, for a forum that was created as a 3rd edition fan site, and still kept a lot of active 3rd edition players after 4e came out, it's frustrating when I come back here after an absence of several years and suddenly I'm treated like a weirdo for playing and talking about the same game I've always played and talked about here.

As I was discussing the differences in miniatures between multiple editions, and it wasn't purely about 3.e, since it involved buying a 5e miniature and find it incompatible, I went with General.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, but I am becoming frustrated with the overall lack of 3.x players here and everyone presuming everyone is talking about 5e.
Sadly, older editions tend to get undersupported as most folks stay with the most recent in-print edition(s). Most people assume you're playing "their" version, which in this case is the current version, 5E or possibly PF2.

Still, I've had miniature size issues since Holmes basic. Let me tell you about the (grenadier) cockatrice miniature I had back in 1E that was taller than the human characters...

I'm not familiar with your experience, but I don't think misunderstanding your point of origination rises to the level of treating you as a weirdo.
