D&D 5E Rogues are Awesome. Is it the Tasha's Effect?

As long as i get to be the frog
Is that really a problem? Being up front and dual-wielding also makes it more likely that you will get attacked. High risk, high reward.

Plus, I’m not sure it’s even true, given that ranged rogues can benefit from XBE and Sharpshooter.
IMO. That the rogue gets attacked some actually benefits the party more than having all the damage concentrated on the fighter.

That's my theory as well. Take a hit and get in there.

Only snipe if you've been hurt bad.
Agreed. There are some players who try to end the adventuring day with having lost no hit points to the detriment of both the rest of the party and often to the excitement of the created story.

Yeah doesn't make a huge amount of sense with things like prayer if healing, healer feat, healing spirit and aura of vitality along with hit dice.

Throw in uncanny dodge.b

Which buys them a turn or two of enemies attacking the familiar instead of the players. Good use of 10gp and 10 minutes if you ask me.

I HR that the death of a Familiar causes the caster a level of Exhaustion (like old school when there was a link between the two), and errated the action economy so the familiar now takes its turn immediately after yours, on your initiative count (like all other 'Pets') for simplicity and consistency sake.

Well, putting in place two house rules that prevent or un-incentivize using a familiar for advantage that puts more priority on the Tasha's Steady Aim.

Im OK with that. I like Steady Aim.

I like having a slight risk with the Familiar so the caster has an incentive to protect it (mechanically and because I'm a traditionalist):

I'm also just a sucker for uniformity with rules (I like how the Homonculi, Steel Defender, and new Beastmaster pets and Summons work, at the end of your turn on your initiative, with possible bonus action commands being given).

Just makes it easy to remember and resolve when pets are in play.

Last night a familiar was killed by a banshee wail - that's the second time I have seen that in 5e, making it by far the most common cause of familiar fatalities.

Cry havoc! And let slip the pigs of war!
I think rogues are cool and one day would like to play a thief. A straight up quick and stealthy thief...halfling? Gnome? Maybe duergar!

I don’t care about adding tashas. I think that rogues very frequently get sneak attack and if not, part of the fun is striving to get sneak attack.

whatever the case, I think they seem fun. But part of it is based on expectations. I am used to 1e backstab for crying out loud!

I like the idea of havoc on behalf of the party. Making the battlefield bad for enemies, filching needed items at the worst time for an enemy...fast hand, sleight of hand....havoc.

spying, picking locks, sneaking. I own tashas and it’s fine...mostly. But not needed for rogues to be cool.
