What Do I Know About Reviews? Blue Rose Adventurer's Guide (D&D 5e)

Today on the blog, I'm taking a look at Green Ronin's classic setting of Blue Rose, which has been used with the True20 and FantasyAGE systems in the past. The new Player's Guide updates the setting for D&D 5e. Will you like the setting? Do you want to steal some of the ideas in it for your home games? Check out the review and see what you think. Thanks for your time!

i am interested in this book but don’t care for POD quality and don’t prefer PDFs. If this was offset print I would get it for sure. with the current options I might pass.

I really like what I've heard about narrative wealth in Blue Rose and am likely going to yoink it for my Ptolus campaign. Everyone's level nine there and, barring something really exceptional happening, wealth just doesn't matter any more so I'm inclined to stop worrying about it as a DM.

I wish that Green Ronin used this opportunity to update the True20 system for the 5e System Engine instead of a direct port. I don't think that D&D magic is a good fit for Aldea.

The thing that bugs me about 5e ports is...spells are optional. You could just...make classes that make Arcana, Religion, or Nature, checks to power a magical effect in a looser system.

Using the basic D&D mechqnics doesn’t require the use of spells.

Yea, if they had just adapted warrior, expert, and adept instead of making a bunch of subclasses, I would have picked this up. Like, I don't think 5e's specific class/subclass structure is actually a defining feature of the game engine, but it seems like there hasn't been a bunch of 3pp that's tried to move beyond it.
