And no, your comment is not on point, because it displays a huge ignorance of the history of that region.
So Korea has literally no overlap, of any kind, in any way, with broader Chinese or Japanese culture? Zero? None whatsoever? Is that what you're claiming? Because my claim is that there exist overlap of some degree. Just want to understand you clearly.

I don't see you responding to the substantive/on topic portion of my post.
Wait, what? I did respond, illustrating how ignorant your comment was of the region, and how it is pretty offensive, and why it's comments like yours that made the problem we have. But hey, you aren't offended by lumping them all together, so it's OK. SMH. How about you actually educate yourself on the history of Korea, especially those times when the entire Korean culture was attempted to be eradicated (more than once), before saying that there's no issue with just lumping them all in together as generic Asian.

I can't speak for all Koreans, naturally, but the thousands of them I've spoken with over the years while living there, get pretty pissed off at any hint of lumping them in with generic Asians or Japanese (especially). There is still, to this day, a lot of animosity between Korea and Japan. Having their unique culture and history constantly pushed to the side or ignored is a big deal, and they have every right to be sensitive about it since more than once other cultures have tried to erase them from history.

I'm struggling to find the substance of your post. Yes, these countries all border each other and have a degree of shared history. Beyond that, I find there is little that unites these countries that merits them lumped into the same book. I don't even think the "collective vs. individualistic" thing is even true for some of these countries.
The claim is that there are real over-arching/arch-typical cultural trends that can be found among East Asian countries.

I'm not going to continue to have a discussion with you if you refuse to even do basic research into the topic. I'm not going to write out a lengthy paper (because it would be long because there's a lot of info there) when it's accessible to you and you're just too lazy to look it up yourself. I've already explained how your argument is incredibly flawed, and why, and you refuse to even acknowledge that. So I won't waste my time doing your work for you.

Ok buddy, you're free to slink away because you can't handle the anthropology 101 fact that neighboring countries influence each others culture.

I mean, some really baseline trends, sure. It is still extremely reductionist to combine 30% of the Earth's landmass and 60% of its population into one book.

If that book is saying "This is an accurate representation of all Asia" then, yes, obviously.

If that book is saying "We're trying to create a fantasy land that is vaguely, tangentially, fuzzy-even-if-you-squint slightly related to various East Asian cultures", then no.

Ultimately, if fantasy/bastardized Europe is not 'wrong', then fantasy/bastardized Asia is not 'wrong'. Whether or not it offends Europeans or Asians is irrelevant to the deontology.
