D&D 5E WizKids Announces Largest Tiamat Miniature Ever

The largest official Tiamat miniature ever at nearly 15 inches tall and nearly 30 inches wide, is coming this September from WizKids, according to IGN.

Tabletop roleplyaing miniature and accessories developer WizKids has announced its largest and perhaps most iconic miniature ever, Tiamat, Dungeons & Dragons' tyrannical goddess of evil dragons.

Slated to hit store shelves in September of this year and available for pre-order in the WizKids online shop, the miniature will be priced "under $400" with more details to come, and tower over your player characters, monster miniatures, most of your terrain pieces, and likely some small pets at 28.9 inches (73.4 cm) wide, 14.6 inches (37.1 cm) tall, and 16.8 inches (42.8 cm) long, supported by a 200mm clear round base. This new miniature will be the largest officially licensed, playable representation of the classic Dungeons & Dragons antagonist since her earliest incarnation by D&D co-creator Gary Gygax back in 1975.

It doesn't explicitly say, but I believe like all of their previous gargantuan minis it will be pre-painted and assembled.

For "just under $400" it better be assembled and pre-painted, clean my house, cook my meals and take out the trash.

I'm sure it comes complete with its own car seat for transportation purposes. Seriously that thing is huge and would be a nice display piece but I can see it getting broken if you're not extremely careful while its in play on the table.

Pre-painted or unpainted and assemply required?

It'll likely be pre-painted and mostly assembled . . . perhaps the wings might be detachable, or something like that.

But some of WizKids previous super-big premium sets were first released pre-painted, and then later re-released unpainted for those who want to paint them themselves. Perhaps they will do the same with Tiamat.

I have the old metal Ral Partha Tiamat and a couple of the old prepainted D&D minis (WotC). I also have the (still) unpainted Reaper huge not-Tiamat. I'm curious how this one will look, generally the painting on the Wizkids minis is not very good, but with such a huge canvas it might become acceptable (those renders always look good, the minis often a lot less so)... Also wondering if this will hit retail, ordering from Wizkids in the US for us Europeans wouldn't be cheap at all!

I wish I had a picture of Tiamat we fought back in 2e. It was a potato with marshmallows on toothpicks for the 5 heads. Still a scary fight though.

No, I purchased the tiamat below unpainted and unassembled for a bit over $400 about 5 years ago. It is slightly bigger than the one by Wizkids, but close enough that I may purchase the wizkids one too (I only wanted a Tiamat that is close to the correct size). The benefit of the unassembled and unpainted ones is that you can change them more easily. I made some changes to my Tiamat and will eventually do different paint job (that is not mine below).
