D&D 5E Flamestrike and Stalker0's little adventure

Also remember - there are 4 other 7th level PCs with you; the 'Warlord' Battlemaster GWM Fighter I posted earlier, a ranged Scout Rogue (expertise in stealth, survival, thieves tools, nature, perception, acrobatics), a Dwarf Life Cleric (sword and board) and a melee heavy (sword and board) Valor Bard 5/ Paladin 2.

If you want them to do something specific, let me know.

I think we head on to the bridge at this point. My familiar will stay in the air, I will periodically check its senses to see if I note anything (aka when its a clear gallop and I'm not about to run into a tree or something).

Yeah, thats cool mate - you Warg out every minute or so.

Ok when you reach around 100' from the bridge, you notice (through your Familiars senses, as it flies on this side of the bridge) that the entire middle section (some 30') appears to have plunged into the rapidly moving and likely freezing water below.

The river itself is some 50' across, and it looks quite deep, is moving very rapidly, and looks very cold. You can hear the water with your own ears from several hundred feet away.

On the far side, the path continues, and the forest seems to jut up through broken stony badlands interspersed with tall coniferous trees.

Ah. Good idea to do it here.
Is this the adventure Flamestrike came up with to demonstrate the utility difference between the Wizard and Fighter base classes in general play?

Yeah. In the context of a standard adventuring day (6 or so combat encounters, 2 or so short rests, a mix of social and exploration, roughly cleaving to the AD XP charts in the DMG).

We've had two encounters so far; one entirely social (get info, try and convince the church for extra help) and one combat (that didn't need to be; a DC 15 intimidate check would have worked, but we took the nuclear option instead :p)

Notably the Fighter could have easily hit many of the skill checks required so far, as could the Bard (we haven't statted him up, but he's a Valor bard mostly) and likely also the Rouge, seeing as they're mostly so far Persuasion, Intimidate, Insight (the Cleric is good here as well), Investigation, History and Arcana (where the Wizard has done well).

Magic hasnt done a whole lot yet. Augury was gave some indication the bridge was out, and the Familiar has done some scouting (that the Scout Rouge could have done a lot better). Water breathing might come in handy now they have this river to cross though!

We certainly haven't seen any domination of the Exploration pillar (some good utility though, but nothing the Rogue alone couldn't have also handled, and certainly far better) and we definitely haven't seen any domination of the Social pillar (quite the opposite really!).

The fireball was fun though :)

I have a ballpark XP budget of 25,000 xp for 5 x 7ths, but they have some pretty decent magic items, so I reckon I can push them a little bit harder and go over that if needed.

There has been one medium combat encounter so far.

I'll have the rogue and my familiar check out the area to make sure there are no ambushes. Assuming the coast is clear, my Wizard will use misty step to cross the 30' hole on the bridge. We will have the team throw me some ropes and I will tie them off and give them a quicky bridge to cross.

The wizard will smirk as he works, noting "Sorry Mac (the fighter), I still have the long jump record".
