Critical Role’s highly successful second campaign -- The Mighty Nein -- premiered over three years ago and has built up over 530 hours of adventures, including over 440 villains conquered and over 100 hours of battles (source: CritRoleStats), and this Thursday, June 3, the epic saga of Critical Role’s second campaign is set to embark on its final adventure.

Since the launch of the campaign on January 11, 2018, Critical Role has chronicled the story of Jester Lavorre (Laura Bailey), Yasha Nydoorin (Ashley Johnson), Caleb Widogast (Liam O’Brien), Beauregard "Beau" Lionett (Marisha Ray), Nott the Brave/Veth Brenatto (Sam Riegel), Fjord (Travis Willingham), Mollymauk "Molly" Tealeaf and Caduceus Clay (both played by Taliesin Jaffe) of The Mighty Nein as they explored Wildemount, formed relationships, spat in the face of death and buried allies, realized that not all goblins are as they seem, discovered the power a friendly cupcake (sprinkled with some Dust of Deliciousness) can have in befriending powerful foes, and showcased the resiliency one can have in the face of insurmountable odds time and time again.

Experience the final chapter of The Mighty Nein as Critical Role concludes the legend of this ragtag group of miscreants that millions across the globe have come to know and love. How will their journey end and what’s next from the world of Critical Role? Tune in to find out!

The final episode of Critical Role’s Campaign 2: The Mighty Nein airs this Thursday, June 3 2021 at 7PM PST simultaneously on Twitch (twitch.tv/criticalrole) and YouTube (youtube.com/criticalrole), with the replayable VOD of the show available on Critical Role’s YouTube channel the following Monday.

I think they'll wrap up some, but Matt will reserve some story for the future adventure of the Mighty Nein.

I think we'll see:
  • Veth retire with her family.
  • Caleb and Astrid have a moment, but not see Trent Ikithon brought to justice.
  • Jester get a happy ending with her mom and dad.
  • Caduceus return to his graveyard.
  • Fjord see Vandran, face to face, and Fjord confront Sabian in Darktow.
  • Beau and Yasha settle down and set roots somewhere (wedding), with Beau taking responsibility for a younger member of the order.
  • Molly start a circus, perhaps with Gustav.
  • Essek pay a heavy price.

There will be lingering threads in the form of Uk'otoa, Trent Ikithon and the Chained Oblivion that they'll address in future adventures.

I would also not be surprised to see them announce a cast change tonight, either.
Think this is all very possible, but I wouldn't put Trent being brought to justice out of the realm of possibility (though that won't mean an end to the threat of the Cerberus Assembly).

A cast change announcement would be interesting, who are you thinking could go? I wouldn't be surprised to see Liam start DMing his own campaign under the Crit Roll banner, possibly with cast/characters from both shows swapping over throughout each series (but could also be outside of Exandria).

And my money is on an announcement of a new WotC distributed book, either an AP based on Aeor or a CSG for whatever continent they are going to for C3 (please let it be a floating city back in the Age of Arcanum). I think the reason we haven't seen an announcement about a summer book from WotC is because it's CritRole related and needed to wait till the end of the campaign :)

I kind of think it's possible that Critical Role Adventures is exactly this; a campaign book.

also i guess they could wrap up a few thing in the 7 hour session, i think i wrongly assumed it would just be an epilogue/Q&A campaign recap thing, but 7 hours could work if there is little combat.
My guess is that they will wrap up quite a bit in 7 hours, and they did leave loose threads in Campaign 1, some of which became central to this Campaign (the Traveller, Kyleth's mom).

I started at the beginning a couple years ago, and am still a half a campaign behind. That's fine depending on what you want out of the experience. If you want to be someone who can talk about the latest critical role with other fans you should probably just tune in for the next campaign, because you are never going to catch up and be current without skipping something. If you don't care about watching it live or talking about the most recent episode you can start basically anywhere.

As many folk have pointed out Campaign 2 is a nice place to start as they know what they are doing from the beginning, it begins at the beginning, and it has more production polish. But personally I enjoyed starting with Campaign 1 where most of them had broad, tropey, lighter, my-first-trpg-character characters with minimally tragic backstories, most the players didn't really know what they were doing mechanics-wise but were just exceptional at playing characters, it gets right into the action of mid-level story arcs, and it is a charmingly ad-hoc affair at the beginning.
Yeah, each campaign so far has had a distinct feel. Campaign 1 was very much a straightforward heroic affair, with clearly-defined heroes and villains and the group becoming renowned within their home region. Campaign 2 has a much more shades-of-grey approach to morality, and the group tend to act outside the public eye for the most part.

I wonder whether we'll see another distinct shift in tone for campaign 3. I'm looking forward to finding out.

There are marketing reasons to leave Trent and Uk'otoa unresolved. I doubt they would let it influence their game specifically, but it's not a big loss to leave them active because of Explorer's Guide to Wildemount.

Fjord disentangle himself from Uk'otoa is sufficient resolution: it doesn't need to be killed, as long as it stays locked away.

Trent, I wouldn't sell him fire or life insurance just now.
