D&D 5E Two New D&D Books Revealed: Feywild & Strixhaven Mage School

Amazon has revealed the next two D&D hardcovers! The Wild Beyond the Witchlight is a feywild adventure due in September, and Curriculum of Chaos is a Magic: the Gathering setting of Strixhaven, which looks like a Harry Potter-esque mage school, set for November.

The Wild Beyond the Witchlight is D&D's next big adventure storyline that brings the wicked whimsy of the Feywild to fifth edition for the first time.

The recent Unearthed Arcana, Folk of the Feywild, contained the fairy, hobgoblin of the Feywild, owlfolk, and rabbitfolk. UA is usually a good preview of what's in upcoming D&D books.

Curriculum of Chaos is an upcoming D&D release set in the Magic: The Gathering world of Strixhaven -- a brand new MtG set only just launched.

Strixhaven is a school of mages on the plane of Arcavios, an elite university with five rival colleges founded by dragons: Silverquill (eloquence), Prismari (elemental arts), Witherbloom (life and death), Lorehold (archaeomancy), and Quandrix (numeromancy). So, knowing nothing about Strixhaven beyond that the name implies owls, I looked up the cards. And found one called "Burrog Befuddler." When, oh when, are they going to have an official frogfolk PC race?!

I mean, maybe soon: just because they only tested a certain number of Races doesn't mean there won't be others.

So what is Strixhaven going to be? The whole world of Arcavios? Mostly about the university itself? Is this "D&D meets Harry Potter" in disguise? Kind of an odd choice to me.

I know next to nothing about Harry Potter and even less about MtG but what I briefly perused about Strixhaven after Googling it this morning gave me the same impression. I could be very wrong but seems like a finite concept for a campaign insofar that it seems the players will always have to be affiliated with or members of one of the colleges to make it worth playing in the setting. Definitely seems like a game Id rather play in than DM. I'm sure there's more than enough stuff to mine for ones own campaign in these books to make them worth buying.

We're never getting a Psionics book or Planescape, are we?

We are getting two other "classic" settings. Planescape may be one of them.

I predict there will be no psionics book. Instead, if they introduce psionics, they'll put it with a Dark Sun book and then later into an "Guide to Everything" book, like how they did the artificer.

So we have an MTG setting: Stryxhaven, a feywild adventure/setting, and probably a draconic book coming. I'm ambivalent about the MTG one, but feywild is a possible purchase and dragons is a must-buy.

It's over a year after the last Magic book, and we just got a Classic Setting. Relax, there will be more Classic Settings, and more Magic Settings.
