D&D 5E Two New D&D Books Revealed: Feywild & Strixhaven Mage School

Amazon has revealed the next two D&D hardcovers! The Wild Beyond the Witchlight is a feywild adventure due in September, and Curriculum of Chaos is a Magic: the Gathering setting of Strixhaven, which looks like a Harry Potter-esque mage school, set for November.

The Wild Beyond the Witchlight is D&D's next big adventure storyline that brings the wicked whimsy of the Feywild to fifth edition for the first time.

The recent Unearthed Arcana, Folk of the Feywild, contained the fairy, hobgoblin of the Feywild, owlfolk, and rabbitfolk. UA is usually a good preview of what's in upcoming D&D books.

Curriculum of Chaos is an upcoming D&D release set in the Magic: The Gathering world of Strixhaven -- a brand new MtG set only just launched.

Strixhaven is a school of mages on the plane of Arcavios, an elite university with five rival colleges founded by dragons: Silverquill (eloquence), Prismari (elemental arts), Witherbloom (life and death), Lorehold (archaeomancy), and Quandrix (numeromancy). You can read more about the M:tG set here.

You will be able to tune into WotC's streamed event D&D Live on July 16 and 17 for details on both, including new character options, monsters, mechanics, story hooks, and more!

Thanks for posting this; I hadn't checked ICV2 yet today. I think the most interesting thing here is the classes for the iconics for each college: Quint (Lorehold) is an artificer, and that was a surprise to me, but it certainly matches with the flavor of Lorehold. I would have guessed Killian (Silverquill) would be a bard and Rootha (Prismari) would be a sorceror, though, based on their characrerization in the short stories. The other two: Dina (Witherbloom druid) and Zimone (Quandrix wizard) seem logical to me, though.

that is like asking if the universe part of the world?
It is a question of individuality.

Say there is an otherworld called "Plane of Humanity", separate from our world, the Material Plane. In the Material Plane, there is a Human named Shakhar Zohavi of Winterhaven. If there is nothing of Zohavi in the Plane of Humanity, then that other world has nothing to do with our world. It is simply not part of us.

The same is true for individual elementals. It doesnt matter of the Elemental Plane of Earth has "rocks". It needs to have our rock! Say our Material world has a specific mountain, with as specific cliff on one of its slopes, and on that cliff is an amazing rocky feature jutting out slightly that looks like the shape of a human body, that villagers have named The Dancer. If there is nothing of our mountain, our cliff, our Dancer, in the Elemental Plane, then that plane is simply not part of us, and is not part of our natural world. Who cares if the plane has "rocks". It is our rock that must be there, or else that plane has nothing to do with us.

A "nature spirit" isnt a disembodied spirit. Just like a "human spirit" is the mind of a unique and specific human, a nature spirit is the mind of a unique and specific feature of nature. This feature is a physical object. If it is a rock, you know where it is, what it looks like, and you can touch it. If it is the mind of a tree, it is the tree growing in your backyard, not some other tree somewhere else. If it is a river spirit, you can get in your boat and row across it.

Animism is our natural world, only, and nowhere else. Each grouping of natural features in our world, including humans, is a community of minds who are interacting with each other. Sometimes we dont know our neighbors so well, and sometimes one of our neighbors is an intimate friend.

Do you know? Now I am thinking if "Witchlight" is the new setting, the anti-Ravenloft, maybe there is space for a third demiplane in the elemental limbo, Iomandra, ruled by the dragon lords. These domains would allow enough space, ecosystems with enough preys, for all specimen of dragons from previous, current and future editions (for example a domain ruled by yuan-ti whose lord is a cobra-dragon).
